Meh. $10 or so I might grab Number 23...though my DVD is still sealed.

Are those new features for Contact? Isn't the DVD bare bones?

I don't think so. I at least remember there being the 2 or 3 commentaries so I assume the rest are on the DVD as well.

Hmm, I might pick up Ghost Ship for the opening wire scene in HD.

The featurettes are new. They're not listed on the old dvd back cover and I don't remember ever seeing them on the disc.

They may have added those for a dvd re-release as well.

Nope, the feaurettes are from the DVD. They only did one DVD release for the movie.

These releases are the same in terms of extras as the DVDs but now have TrueHD audio and 1080p video.

No, but I confess I watched it a day after getting my wisdom teeth out. Like I can talk anyway since I own Ghost Ship.

Ghost Ship...Warner has thousands of movies to pick from and they give us Ghost Ship? Even as a Halloween tie-in it is a weak choice. The other two at least have positives going for them with well-known stars that can be promoted.

I agree that Warner keeps picking headscratchers titles from their catalogue. When I saw the subject line my first thought was "Good, crap, crap". "Number 23" is just as bad as "Ghost Ship".

Basically this must be Warner's new catalog BD strategy: Release not so popular catalog movies no one is really asking for at a cheap, affordable price point, and only release the highly requested popular classics in stupid, overpriced deluxe sets stuffed with useless junk.....
Way to go asshats! You finally move away from all your lossless audio complaints and instead find some other way to screw up pushing BD adoption!

Re: Contact, Ghost Ship & Number 23 coming

As long as they don't do a half-assed back catalogue effort on Contact, it should look pretty damn good in hi-def. Definitely one off my most wanted list.

Re: Contact, Ghost Ship & Number 23 coming

I would buy Ghost Ship if it only included the first 23 minutes.

I would buy Contact if it didn't include the last 23 minutes.

Contact was one of the early titles on DVD and even suffered from "DVD rot". I remember a lot of the copies had to be replaced. I would probably grab this for sentimental reasons, like Twister.

There are many people who will buy sub-par movies just to build up their collection. Many of us did it with DVD when that was fresh and I imagine the next gen is doing it with Blu-ray. I have 200 BDs and 330 HDs...I'm set. I picked up many of my HDs for $4 or less so even sub-par films for that price I can deal with...but I won't spend $15 on Ghost Ship.

Of course back when DVD was in it's infancy we were so desperate for even mediocre movies they were being gobbled up upon release. I did the same thing. I bought almost anything and just figured I would sell or trade if I didn't like it or got tired of it. I ended up with hundreds of unopened crappy movies I never did anything with while they were worth more than 25¢.

I too picked up a bunch of HD's I wouldn'y normally own or have upgraded but once the bottom fell out and they were

Re: Contact, Ghost Ship & Number 23 coming

I didn't start getting Blu-ray until after HD-DVD had already been defeated. Contact was my very first DVD and I still recall that day I went to the theater to see it, so I wish it could have been my first Blu-ray too. But I cannot wait to upgrade nonetheless. And good riddance to another snap case..
