Have never seen Shock Corridor or Naked Kiss due to lackluster releases previously but will try to get the blus ASAP. Film Noir is my favorite genre and I've read a lot about these two particular Fuller titles.

Both Fuller titles are part of B & N's current B2G1 sale. I ordered The Naked Kiss, Shock Corridor and Robinson Crusoe on Mars for $58.52 shipped.

All titles in the "Studio Canal Collection" originate in France. Studio Canal authors the discs themselves and then licenses them out to other distributors in other countries. You'll note that when you first load the disc, it asks you to identify your country. If you choose the US, it plays a Lionsgate trailer. If you choose the UK, it will play an Optimum Home Entertainment trailer instead. And so forth.

That trailer you watched was a generic international trailer, not specific to the US. Many of the titles that Studio Canal owns in Europe are held by different studios here. Deer Hunter is Universal, and Elephant Man is Paramount, for example. Those movies will never be released as part of the "Studio Canal Collection" here. Studio Canal's European releases for such titles are usually locked to Region B to prevent importing.

thankfully, 'The Elephand Man' is not region B locked.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Even if the Studio Canal releases are region locked you can always buy a cheap Region Free Insignia Blu-ray/DVD player. I got one for about $50 shipped (refurbished with all materials) from Overstock.com auctions so that I can finally be without any region restrictions.

I also sweetened the deal by selling a lot on eBay of Digital Copies I would never use, and I got over $60 on 25 of those. So that paid for the player. Now I can just import whatever I want from Amazon.co.uk, etc.

As another note: For those looking to buy Criterion's right now I suggest partaking in the current B&N B2G1 sale. I'm planning on picking up Cronos, Videodrome, and another title. Maybe Broadcast News. They should come out to around $18 a piece which is pretty much the same as they are during the B&N 50% off sale online.

With the three you mentioned above, I think your total would be more like $65 (Broadcast News would be free). Only pre-orders are down around the $26-28 zone.

Thanks for the update. I didn't check to see if all the Criterion titles were priced the same. I should have done that first.

if we wait one more day, will the 20% off coupon work too (I'm thinking Naked Kiss, Shock Corridor and Army in the Shadows).

Yes, I used it today and canceled my previous order.

No digipak for The Double Life of Veronique:

Thanks Noirfan, although it looks like some of this week's releases went up $1.50 too

Someone actually pointed out to me that the red circle could be Le Cercle Rouge instead of Sunday Bloody Sunday. It kinda makes sense since Army of Shadows got the blu treatment in Jan.

When I saw this in my e-mail I immediately recognized it as Le Cercle Rouge... I guess it didn't stand out as much when the pic was posted on Facebook.

Le Cercle Rouge would be sweet, but I'd rather get Le Samourai first.

Ditto. I'd also love Blu-rays of Le Silence de la mer and Leon Morin, pretre. I know Criterion has the rights to the latter, not sure about the former.

Isn't Le Cercle Rouge a Studio Canal title? If so, Criterion probably won't be putting it out on blu-ray.

I forgot, that's right. If anything, it would be a Lionsgate port of this release.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

From the Criterion forum:

Ryan Gallagher pointed this out, the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas page says "DIRECTOR-APPROVED BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES," so that is getting announced today....Le cercle rouge's page has been changed. The specs now say "Restored, complete, uncut version, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack," so a Blu-ray of that's happening.
