re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'll get Che, but that is some god awful artwork. They shouldn't have made it look like the t-shirt design.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
All over Paris, Texas and especially 8 1/2, great news!
Haven't decided on Che though, I've been buying all the Criterion Blu's day-and-date so far, though Monsoon Wedding & Howard's End may stop the streak, and like any other Soderbergh, this may have to be rented first. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
that Paris, Texas cover is tops. Will pick that up and probably 8 1/2 at some point too, though I only watched my DVD of that 2-3 times over the years...need to just rent more. :helpme:

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
This is definitely one of the best batches of Criterion blus so far!
I just wish they had included Rosellini's War Trilogy on blu also... |

I think it looks just like Benicio.

He kinda looks like Chris Cornell to me.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I ordered up a replacement Third Man case. Curious to see what they send along.

Got my Third Man today if anyone wants to know specifics about what's shipping now. What up? |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
This is definitely a good batch of Criterion on Blu. Haven't seen Che, yet, so I'll probably give it a Netflix test run first. 8 1/2 is one of my favorite films, so it's a day one purchase.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Mine arrived, too.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I think I'm going to wait until they have more titles available so I can order all at once.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
After e-mailing Jon Mulvaney last night about not receiving my plastic case for "The Third Man," yet, this is his reply...
Hi Chris, Thanks for writing in! The program has been so popular that we are currently out of the plastic cases! We're expecting more to come in a the end of the week. I have a record of all the payments so rest assured that as soon as we receive more I'll be shipping one out to you! Thanks for supporting Criterion and please accept my apologies for any worries caused! Best, Jon |

Too bad Solveig Dommartin passed a couple of years ago. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
What?! Solveig Dommartin died?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Criterion lists "The Third Man" (BD and DVD) as 'Out of Print' on its website (check their official page for the movie). Folks online have asked Criterion's people to confirm that they've lost the rights to the movie and so far no answer. If you wait you may not have a chance to own "The Third Man" on Blu once the already-made Criterion copies run out. :(

Perhaps only the cardboard packaging version is now OOP? That wouldn't explain the DVD though.

where is the link to the replacement cases? I can't find it on Criterion's site.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
According to Criterion's Facebook page, they have indeed lost the rights to The Third Man. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of movies, period, should order it right now, if they don't already own it. Also, they will be releasingM on Blu-ray, though there is no definite date as of yet. I'm assuming that the upcoming MoC edition will then be Region B, like their Blu-ray release of For All Mankind.

If you read a few posts above, you'll see Jon's reply to me about them already running out of their first-run of replacement cases for "The Third Man," but another shipment was on its way. CC |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
late to the discussion here...what is the story on the Third Man case? Is Criterion switching to plastic over paper cases for a future releases? I also have The Man Who Fell to Earth.
also, I picked the Third Man up over the summer. still haven't watched it. I'm surprised that Criterion has already lost the rights to it. |

Ditto, shame this is going out of print. Hopefully I will get the new case? Doubtful though. Oh well, I don't especially care.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Yea, I ordered a copy as well last night. They sold it at $13-$14 a month or so ago and probably sold through the older stock. (cardboard case)

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Anyone seen an increase of sales on 'The Third Man' because of the OOP title? I'm at the point where I dont care as much as I did in the past about titles going Out of Print -- Just means something nicer is on the way.
But it is a quick buck. |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Is anyone else waiting for Seven Samurai to be announced?
It seems like it would be an obvious choice for Blu-ray. It's one of the great films of world cinema, it was Criterion's very first DVD, and it's been one of their most popular titles. |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
actually, Grand Illisiun is spine #1, but it wasn't released for about a year after they started releasing DVDs. so SS was probably first.
