Speaking of Gomorrah, not mentioned in this thread is CC and IFC Films new marriage, so expect CHE on blu-ray as well as Nolan's The Following, in January.

Wow.

That's news to me as I've been away from the Criterion Forum for a long time. I guess that explains how Criterion is releasing Che. It's nice to see Criterion picking up all these movies. They appear to be recession-proof.

No pedantry intended, but Nolan's film is actually called "Following", not "The Following".

Also, regarding a replacement program for the earlier Criterion digipack blu-ray cases, user 'aox' over at criterionforum.org has posted this most recent reply about them...

I emailed Criterion yesterday about the packaging for the early Blu's. He didn't answer my direct question about an exchange program, but knowing Criterion, they'll take care of us on this one..anyway:

Hi,

Thank you for your email!

The rumor is indeed true-- we will be offering sturdier replacement
packaging for the original digipack Blu-ray cases! The program is
currently in the works but we hope to have the upgraded plastic cases
available in late September. We will announce this on our web site as
soon as it is finalized!

I hope this information is helpful and thank you for supporting Criterion!

Sincerely,

Jon Mulvaney

Very nice! My Bottle Rocket will look normal.

Still a bit shocked Criterion didn't go with the clear cases and a slip cover.

Awesome news, will be glad to replace all my digipacks.

Also for Montery Pop, it's nice to see the inside of a slipcase have some artwork as well. :)

I'm keeping all my digipacks. They're much more unique than standard art and cases.

I'm hoping just a shipping fee - $2.95 or so.

Agreed. I loved the design, and I will miss it greatly... some of my favorite packaging on Blu-ray to date.

Where does "standard art and cases" come into it? The newer style packaging is actually more unique in the marketplace than the digipacks and the art is the same.

True, clear cases are pretty revolutionary when all the other cases are blue.

You said you liked the digipacks because they're "unique". However, the clear cases are even more unique. Other companies use the digipacks; I don't believe anyone else uses the clear cases.

I guess we just have different ways of looking at it. I don't have any digipack Blu-rays (unless you include Warner's "books") so I think they're something special. I've always favored digipacks... except when it comes to CDs.

Wrong movie. That's "A Christmas Story." I surely hope you were being sarcastic.

"A Christmas Tale," on the other hand, is a 2008 French film.

Also, if no one else has noticed, all of Criterion's October releases have now been pushed into November, according to their site, which means 4 blu-ray releases for November and no October releases.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

If you keep refreshing Criterion's home page, you'll see the broken image link for "AK 100: 25 Films By Akira Kurosawa" pop-up under the DVD Coming Soon banner at the bottom of the page.

And for those who haven't yet seen it, both Home Theater Forum and Criterionforum.org have images up for the Kurosawa set, which lists the 25 films and shows the book included.

So, I'm thinking that'll probably be the only other Criterion release for December.
