Nope I was wrong. It is the Criterion release.

"Last month, we offered customers the unique opportunity to vote for the next Blu-ray release from the Criterion Collection. We're excited to announce that "Howard's End [Blu-ray]" is the winning title and will be released from the Criterion Collection later this year. Why wait? You can pre-order "Howard's End- Criterion Collection [Blu-ray]" from Amazon.com today."

The Merchant Ivory Collection is produced by The Criterion Collection "Under exclusive license from Merchant Ivory Productions, Inc." Maybe the new Blu-ray edition will place "Criterion" more prominently, unlike the non-Blu editions which have it only on the lower back of the case.

Good. But I'm not ditching my Tartan copy.

My Tartan copy is officially on the block. Although I like the short film "Karin's Face" and I'm surprised Criterion didn't include the onset footage that Tartan includes, my collection has gotten a bit out of control with so many duplicate titles (I now have three Seventh Seals on the shelf). So, the old Criterion release goes to my daughter, and the OOP Tartan BD+SD/PAL release is yours for $15 shipped. PM me if you're interested!

The seniors I know have great taste in films and could probably run circles around you on the Internet and elsewhere.

I found, and picked up, The Seventh Seal from a little local shop earlier today. I figured what the heck, even though I had to pay about $5 more for it than I would have normally. I'm a sucker for getting things a little early.

On a side note, I also found the Criterion DVD of My Man Godfrey for $5 at a pawn shop earlier today also, so not a bad trip. :D

"My Man Godfrey" is one of my favorite Criterions (and favorite movies). The bonus features are terrific: to see and hear Carole Lombard swearing like a sailor after she flubs a line is amazing.

Yeah, I've been wanting to pick up that DVD for years. I was shocked to see it in the pawn shop, much less the flawless condition it was in.

All the endless posts here about people dying to get Saving Private Ryan, Star Wars, LOTRs etc etc on Blu-Ray, Pierrot le Fou is about excited as I could be for any Blu-Ray announcement. My all-time favorite director & the #1 movie of his I was hoping would get a Blu-release.

Thank God! A month off!

As much as my first reaction is "Still no Walkabout?", my second is "Whew. These are the respite my wallet's been crying for."

Glad other folks are excited and glad to see some JLG hit BD, but I'm most glad that I don't need these. :)

Fuuuuck.

Seriously... I want some Wes Anderson love one of these months. Really want Darjeeling Limited love in HD. That film has some fantastic imagery that the currently lacking DVD just can't handle.

Pierrot le Fou is one of my favorite French films... but I've already got the excellent Criterion DVD (which was just released last year, correct?).

PS: Rushmore. PPS: The Royal Tennenbaums PPPS: The Aquatic Life. :D

Well, as much as I'd love it, too... I just can't imagine another Wes Anderson blu-ray from Criterion is in the pipeline so soon since "Bottle Rocket" was part of their first releases.

I'm still itching for "The Darjeeling Limited," too, from Criterion but what are the chances that they'll ever be able to get FOX to give 'em the rights for a release?

Fox licensed Bigger than Life to Criterion, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. I assumed that's why the Fox DVD was pretty much stripped to bare metal, at least.

The only money Criterion will get from me is Wes Anderson films. I imagine Royal and Life Aquatic were decent sellers because of how they were advertised and sold in stores yet no BD? Not even a hint of them coming in the future?

What happened to those Wim Wenders titles that were supposed to come out? I think Wings of Desire, at least, would get a BD release.

While I'm sure that Blu-ray can provide somewhat better resolution and improved color reproduction of its 16mm origins than the pretty good SD DVD, I'm wondering if the audio specs are going to be updated for 'Monterey Pop.' I guess they can up the bitrates...

At this point, it seems like more of a marketing decision than an upgrade.

I'm a little disappointed that I won't be seeing any hi def Lou Adler tonight. It's just baseball for me until September.
