Not loving this cover art. Why remove the frenzy of the huge parade?

Both versions will include an all-new making-of documentary with deleted scenes, bloopers, interviews, and Heath Ledger's screen test. An audio commentary and digital copy will also be included on both formats. The release marks the first time on Blu-ray and 16:9-enhanced DVD for the Shakespeare-inspired 1999 high school comedy that recently spawned an ABC Family show.

It is actually quite entertaining. Larry Miller plays the dad and he has some great lines. Early performance from Heath Ledger also. I would pick this up when the price was right.

Why so very few catalogs titles in December....especially compared to a huge November?

Studios want consumers to buy the stuff already on the shelves and save new stuff for later.

Yeah, November is always the holiday release explosion. December is usually pretty quiet by comparison.

^ Ugh. Really? That movie was all hype and barely any delivery. With the glut of classics AB has in their catalog, this is what they're giving us?

Kind of like "Trick R Treat". Bleh.

Even if "Trick 'r Treat" didn't live up to the hype for some (not me), there's no way it's nearly as bad as Jack Brooks.

I have no idea if its getting a Blu-ray release, but I have a pending date for Halloween 2 (Weinstein) which is 12-15-09. Its about the same time (month-wise) that the first film came out. Again, no idea on the Blu-ray.

I know their financial situation is dire, but wouldn't that be a big embarrassment for the Weinstein Co. if a major release like Halloween 2 doesn't get a blu release?

I agree, that would be embarrassing for the studio, and for the format as well. Blu-ray really should be treated as the standard expected from Studios.

They have not pressed a Blu-ray since April (and it only got pressed since it was nominated otherwise Weinstein would have skipped it).... And Alliance has been handling some of their titles (Canada only). I really don't know. Given how poorly previous Weinstein New Releases sell on Blu-ray it may not be worth it for them to do so. I'm in the camp that hopes it comes out since I won't buy the DVD.

Funny thing is, this happened with the last Halloween film as they never released it on HD DVD even though it made a huge box office. I thought maybe Universal would handle it, but they announced Inglorious Basterds on 12/15 as well.

My first instinct is to call "placeholder," but they actually have a (Sapphire-like) price. Maybe it's really in the works.

It is. It'll likely come out towards the end of 2010. Wasn't this announced a few months ago with Exorcist, Groundhogs Day etc? Could have swore we talked about it here.

Fame (1980)

as it turns out, WB (US) is releasing this, but just not this year - the street date is for 1/26/2010, the SRP is $28.99, and it will include a CD soundtrack sampler with 4 songs

hooray!

Ha! Thanks for the reminder. Recently, I started to notice that it was still there and I recognized that it was way past it's time. For whatever reason (probably laziness and some indecision as to what to update the counter to) I've simply left it alone. Due to your comment I am going to make it a priority to change it to something new sometime this weekend.

Same here. Outstanding performances by Bogie and Hepburn in this one... I was never really keen on the setting of the story, but it's told well, and directed well, and the two stars, though middle-aged, still shine brightly in this fun classic.

Well, I heard Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown were pushed back to be released with Inglourious Basterds, so while I guess I'm glad my wallet is getting a break, I would have been happier to get those titles.

Besides, they should, within reason, put out all the titles they can and let the buyer catch up as they can. Sometimes I buy a movie on release week and sometimes I wait a few months. Sometimes I wait for it to drop to a certain price point if it's not a favorite of mine.

I hope they do realize, as they go back through the catalog, even just the titles that were/are already on dvd, that people do get older. The Disney thing of realizing movies with a 6 year plan is only good for my eventual grandchildren.

Well being laid off from 3 jobs in two years has greatly restricted my horizons. So money is one big factor, space is another. I'm being very selective in those titles I'm upgrading due to space.

It's not like I don't check them out. I just don't buy them. They go into my BB queue. I mean movies to get excited over the release announcement just aren't there.
