Wow, I've been pleasantly surprised how many complete television series we've been getting recently. Cheers is one I will have to pick up.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
Is there a complete list of what tv series are available on blu ray(please nothing from blu ray.com)?

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
I am pretty sure that most tv series from the 1960s aren't on blu ray except for the top shows(Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, etc).
I would like to see Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Land of the Giants since Time Tunnel is on blu ray and was only on for one season. |

The majority of TV series from the '60s (and you can say this about any decade, really) have faded into obscurity, so I wouldn't expect most of them to be out on Blu-ray. |
Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
I was surprised that Dick van Dyke Show was one of the first on blu ray because I think it's one of the most overrated tv shows in tv history.
I could see shows like the following still to be in demand: Leave it to Beaver Perry Mason The Fugitive The FBI (original) The Invaders(original) BTVS |
Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
Oh man, Cheers is probably my all-time favorite comedy, but I just marathoned it last year so it'll probably be awhile before I want to give it another go. I am glad they are putting it on BD.
Do we know if there were any restoration efforts done or is it just a simple dump of the episodes on disc? If it's the latter I'll probably stick to streaming on it. |

60's TV on BluRay?
I'd like to see The Munsters plus a U.S. release of the 16-disc 1965-1967 set of The Avengers recently released by Imprint in Australia |
Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
I want The Addams Family on BD. I had so much bad luck with the flipper DVDs that I gave up and bought the series on VUDU.

That's the main reason I would like to see Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Land of the Giants because of Fox using flipper discs on those previousy released series on dvd. |

You'd have to be a real Bonanza superfan to buy a 112 disc set. This is the sort of thing streaming was made for.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
There's simply no way I would ever have the time to watch a set like Bonanza.
112 discs, 431 episodes at an average length of 50 minutes each. That's 21,550 minutes of shows. That's about 359 hours total. Plus according to Amazon, that set will weigh 16.8 pounds. |
Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
Not that I'm going to order it, but I still have to ask... Why not on Blu-ray?

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
Sound logic. "Of the very limited audience that would want to collect a 60-year old TV show on physical media, let's make them buy a complete package of the entire series at once, keeping it to the same low-resolution format they already bought previously, thus forcing them to double-dip on the seasons we already sold them. And then we'll release it on the better format later to see if we can squeeze a triple-dip out of them."
|
Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
^^Thanks, Djariya.
^Josh, it looks like they are also releasing the last 3 seasons as separate packages, but for $50 per season vs $245 for all 14 seasons. I would expect that'll piss people off. In that case, I'd spring for the new set, anyway. Except I wouldn't, because I'd wait for the Blu-ray set, if there was any possibility of it happening. After buying the Dick Van Dyke Complete Series on DVD, and then buying it again on Blu-ray, I can't see buying a complete DVD set of that era, again, knowing how good it 'could' be. |

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
Apologies for the confusion. I initially thought it was BD until after I posted it. But honestly if I posted it in a DVD announcement thread, chances are no one here would read it as most in this forum don’t care about DVD. But at least now some of you are aware of it.
