Re: Rocky Collection Being Prepared for Holiday Release
I'm in. I was watching Rocky III on Spike HD last night and it looked awesome. So, extras or not, I'll likely bite on this.

Re: Rocky Collection Being Prepared for Holiday Release
Awesome. Have been passing up some good deals on Rocky and Rocky Balboa in hopes of a full set coming out. I can wait 'til Christmas.

Nov 3
I guess it'd be too much to ask that the original to get remastered
the current BD video is lacking

Amazon has the pre-order up, $69.99. It says there are 7 discs. So maybe disc 7 is a bonus disc..or a DC of the first one.

Not a bad price. Works out to about $12 a movie. Better price then the Lecter Trilogy of 3 movies

If these are the only Special Features, I'll wait for the next release of these movies. And by "wait" I mean not put it on my Christmas list this year.

All I would like aside from the special features from 1 and 6 would be a commentary by Stallone on 2 - 5, that's all I ask for! IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK FOR!!??

Re: Rocky Collection Being Prepared for Holiday Release
So far, BIG letdown. All the bonus disc is, is just a copy of the original ROCKY 2-disc special edition extra features.
Do Rocky II, III, IV, (skip V) extras not exist in the minds of the people who make the ROCKY DVD boxsets? The trailers for the sequels have all that there have been as far as extras are concerned since the first DVD box-set.
This is what Amazon.com has listed for the features hopefully these are the same for the UK release as well which is called Rocky the complete collection.

Re: Rocky Collection Being Prepared for Holiday Release
Would they really bother to reauthor "Balboa" into a new, barebones disc just for this set? It seems to me that it would be easiest to just include the previously released disc, as I don't think it could really be improved on visually, it already had lossless audio, and it would be stupid to dump the previous special features...although a lot of things about this set are a cause for concern right now...what if they are just reusing the original "Rocky" disc with the outdated MPEG2 transfer, and then just including a DVD for the bonus disc? I wouldn't put it past MGM to do this, as the three audio commentaries from the two-disc SE DVD are not listed for "Rocky"...

You know I'm getting really tired of this crap. I've bought the whole box set twice and in turn have bought the first movie 4 times (twice in the box set, the 2 disc and the BD) I don't know why they won't put special features on II - V? Stallone has said he wants to do SE of the movies, why won't they just let him? The series was incredibly successful during it's time. They have no clue what they're doing. They should put me in charge and I'll get us some special features.

Re: Rocky Collection Being Prepared for Holiday Release
Disappointing but not unexpected. 2006 (30th anni and RB's release) would've been the ideal time for new interviews and docs for each movie... not to be I guess. Still, I've bought the movies "only" twice (VHS and first DVD Boxset) so the jump to BD is still a no-brainer for me... despite nothing new being offered it is decently priced.

Re: Rocky Collection Being Prepared for Holiday Release
So true.
There ARE deleted scenes to be had here!
ROCKY II:
Rocky gives a speech at his old high-school (I've seen it on a Topps card)
ROCKY IV:
Rocky goes before the boxing commision after Apollo's death (it's on the trailer)
ROCKY V:
The original Marie from Rocky I returns as a streetwoman
And these are just off the top of my head.

Re: Rocky Collection Being Prepared for Holiday Release
This all must be a big inside joke for the people at MGM. They seem to release a Rocky boxset every year around Christmas time, yet year after year Rocky II-V get the shaft. What is wrong with them? Am I wrong in thinking these films still have a huge diehard fanbase that would eat up a special edition?

I want to keep holding out for a better set, but feel like this might be the best its going to get.

Same here. Even though I love them, I have actually never bought II-IV on DVD. When I heard a BR set was being released I decided I will finally give in and buy the set.

Re: Rocky Collection Being Prepared for Holiday Release
You can pre-order this at Amazon or Best Buy right now for only $52.49...that's only $8.75 a film....OR, it will be $54.99 at BB on Tuesday according to their ad....
Anyway, I was just at Moviestop this morning, and they already had all of next week's new releases in stock (not for sale yet obviously, but they were just sitting back behind the counter)....
My friend who works there let me check out the Rocky set....it comes in a blue plastic case just like the one used for Star Trek: TOS seasons, and that case is then housed inside a slipcase cover (like the ones you can find on the latest season of Smallville)....
I also found it interesting that Rocky Balboa is listed on the back of the box as having PCM audio (while the other five have DTS-HD MA), which would indicate that they are simply using the previously released disc, but there is no indication of any of the RB bonus features being included on the back of the box....it would seem ridiculous for them to get all new discs made for it without the extras, but stranger things have happened in the past....

Wonder if this will be one of the last MGM Blu-ray releases if the studio does go kaput? They've slowed down to a crawl on announcements (nothing for Fame yet?)
