I've never seen this but I hear it's visually stunning, at the least. I might pick it up unless I hear otherwise.

Glad you gave it it's own thread.
Now, I'm a bit apprehensive about this though. Because The New World is reference quality PQ for a DVD but the Extended Cut looks like crap (PQ wise). Hopefully, Warner just short changed the Extended Cut because the Blu-ray was coming. I don't know, I just hope it looks gorgeous. I have great expectations.

Sweet! I held off on the DVd hoping a BD wasn't far behind. I've only seen the theatrical cut so far. I hope the extended cut is worth it.
Man, they sure lumped this title in with the announcement of some shit titles though!

Never got around to picking up the DVD so this comes as very welcome news.
Also in for Freddy vs Jason, Snakes on a Plane and Texas Chainsaw Massacre for sure.

Quite possibly the most boring movie I ever saw. I took a date to see this as it was getting late and this was the last movie showing. She ended up falling asleep and I couldn't blame her. We ended up just walking out. Terrible movie...

This is one of those movies where the surface story is only half the story. I think a lot of folks who like this one connect in some way with the underlying themes. Seeing this when you are tired is probably not the best move.

As long as they include the special features we will pick this up. My wife really liked this movie and would love to have it.

^ woohoo!
but in all seriousness, to each his own, I didn't find this boring in the slightest. If Malick did a ten hour nature pic with no dialogue, I'd be equally rivetted.

I'd rather have the theatrical cut. I didn't like anything about the extended cut. The pacing was perfect in the original version. I'm going to pass.

Ugh....why can't these studios use seamless branching???
I will probably get it anyway. I am heartened by Gary's review though:

"I think this longer cut flows just as well as the wider released theatrical. It's layered with more visual splendor. It's one of those films though where viewing time shouldn't be an issue. Watch it late at night with no work the next day. You are exposed to so much natural beauty along with the story it can elevate to e (sic) new cinema experience."

Re: The New World (Extended Cut): 9/8/09
alright...so I finally got this this week on BD cuz it was on sale for $9.99 at amazon. I saw the theatrical on DVD. I liked it when I saw it when it initially came out on that format. Now...for the BD I really like it a lot more cuz..well..it shows off my clarity of Malick's visual. One question though...uhm...exactly at the 2:21:47 mark, a bit after Rolfe tells Pocahontas that they've been to England to meet the royalty, does the rocks "move" or something? Notice on the lower left of that small stream of water coming down...the rocks surrounding that...are they moving? Also notice the rocky shore...same thing. I don't know...but I noticed that. Is it just the water moving across them that gives that look? I noticed it...just now...
