Uhm...it's about the same...I guess? It's an extended cut as well....so....off the top of my head...I can't tell what they extended in the movie but it didn't degrade it's quality. I may amp it up a bit cuz you get more Malick for your money....but honestly...I still like it the same as I did as the theatrical cut. It was long as is but not boring....very...peaceful, calming and sad at points in the film. The Documentary is longer on the BD. Picture and audio are obviously better. So....in all honestly..yeah..it's better.

...and it's cheap. Currently $9.99 at amazon.

I love this extended cut. I've never watched the theatrical. I got the theatrical version on DVD from the library but then heard that the extended cut was coming (this was when the extended DVD was first announced), so I just returned it. I watched the extended on DVD and recently purchased the BD from amazon.

If it's an extended cut, I may have to get it. But not right now, at a later date.

I ended up finally biting on this because it was cheap. The PQ is really good, like mentioned before WB screwed the DVD release but this looks great. I still prefer the theatrical cut because the pacing is better but it's worth picking up.

Finally got around to watching this this week. One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Actually enjoyed the lingering shots of the East Coast scenery more than I liked the story and acting. (The Pocahontas actress stood out...she's a revelation. As were some of the actors who played the Indians, particularly the curious, mute one. Farrell spent the entire film with puppy dog eyes and Bale projected zero charisma and I was grateful when the weren't on screen.)

Biggest gripe though is that the extras aren't captioned. HATE that, especially on a disc loaded with cool looking extras.

Glad I rented it because I doubt I'll ever watch again, but it is stunning to look at. The comparison my be unfair, but loved the look (costumes, set design, etc.) of New World way more than Last of the Mohicans, which is one of my all-time favorites.
