The Last Starfighter: 25th Anniversary Edition

No, sorry, I don't have details on a release date or any bonus materials. I just thought it was worth reporting that I went to a 25th anniversary screening at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica last week and director Nick Castle was on hand with Catherine Mary Stewart and about 25 cast/crew members. During the q&a after the film, Castle mentioned that they had shot some new supplements for a forthcoming Blu-ray release. Someone in the audience also mentioned that the film has not been treated well on home video, including the HD release, and Castle said he would talk to Universal about possibly created a new transfer for the BD.

While a decent film, it won't be a big seller on Blu-ray so I can't see Universal paying any extra money to go back and re-encode it.

I'd have no problem getting it, if they re-encode it. Already have the HD-DVD and it didn't impress.

Cant wait to get it. It has to be better than the DVD that came out so long ago.

Yeah. I'd imagine they'd be better served by spending the money on improving some of their other catalogue titles like Xanadu.

I would imagine the special effects might need some serious attention moving this to HD.

The cheeseball special effects are pretty much the only charm this movie has. Pull a "Lucas" on this and there'll be no reason to watch it at all.

It could definitely use a remaster, however. The HD DVD is filtered to hell.

How does Catherine Mary Stewart look these days? I love women with three names...

I think the primitive CGI used in this one is quite charming actually. Not one I'll buy for more than a few bucks, but I'd rent this one again.

I thought the Gunstars were pretty cool looking. Had a nifty design and I loved the "Death Blossom".

She's aged gracefully. She still looks pretty much like she did in Night of the Comet.

I see that picture on IMDB with a date of Feb. '08. I'd be willing to bet it's actually at least 10 years old though. She looks like she's in her 30's there.

Still, based on the pictures they have from this year that look more current, I'd hit it.

It might sell well if they can manage to tie it in somehow with Disney XDHD's new Aaron Stone series. Clearly they got a lot of ideas from LSF.

Sweetie pie.

Unless it gets restored on Blu Ray, I'll be happy with my HD-DVD.

Had it on SD, then on HDDVD, this is one film that doesn't get a triple dip with me! The HDDVD is way good enough!!!

It does and it looks like more... cant wait. The music score alone is worth the purchase.

DVD cover shown here: http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...arfighter.html

Wonder if it will be the same for the BD? Not sure if I really dig it or not yet.

Cover looks ok, not as bad as I expected, but not nearly as good as the old CE cover.
