Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
Tom Arnold used the term "o-ring" in Austin Powers, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about a slipcover.

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
i wonder how much of sony's carbon footprint could be reduced if they did not release paul blart for home video in the first place ...

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
As I just told my wife...Wal-Mart pulling this crap has forced me to put into place a household boycott of the place. They need to get off their high-horse. Anyone remember their "buy American" campaign a decade ago? Now I'd dare you to find more than a handful of things that are completely made in America. And don't even get me started on their labor practices...

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
This is great news! It's just that many more brand new BD releases that I wont have to buy anymore! Bring them on used, either those already transferred to normal BD cases, or in the crap cases which I'll just transfer myself.
I'm one of the biggest fans of Futurama in the world, and I never, not once, bought any of the movies in the ech-friendly packages (I own the two BDs of the last two movies), and instead waited to buy the first two on DVD used already in normal DVD cases. So bring it on, I just wish more people would do what I'm doing now. Screw em. |

You're "one of the biggest fans of Futurama in the world" and you bought the DVD release instead of the Blu-ray because of the PACKAGING?! |
Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
Another instance of a studio trying to pass off a cost-cutting measure as some added value to the consumer. These cases are inherently inferior to the regular cases and less durable. That is a fact and I worry as someone who mail orders a large percentage of their Blu-ray collection.
I really hope the other studios are smart enough to avoid these cases. I am aware Fox has also started using this style of case. |

So only releases purchased at Wal-Mart will have these cases?

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
Oh, that sucks. I figured it'd be an easy way to avoid them. :(
So not only has Wal-Mat been eratic with pricing lately (they've randomly see-sawed the prices on some releases from $29.99 to $35.99 in several of their stores I've visited) but now they're determining the packaging standards for everyone too? |
Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
They are called O rings because they have no top or bottom.
So they wrap around the case but can move up or down with ease. If you take one of these and look at it from the top, thats the "O" in O ring. I figured this out thanks to Video Business weekly showing off various DVD packages. |

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
I'm going to say good for Sony. As long as the size matches my other cases and they're not going to stick out like the old WB cardboard cases then I'm fine with it.

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
I for one would like the studios to know that I'm already doing my part to save the world: I'm reducing my carbon footprint by purchasing their films "previously viewed".
They're cool with that, right?:) |

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"
At least there not doing the same with Blu Ray's. Now that would piss me off.
