Any chance of Tron being released on Blu-ray?

I would think this would look great on blu-ray. I believe the movie still hold up good...just like it did when I saw it in the theater back in 1982.

Considering the 20th anniversary CE DVD looks excellent, I would think BD would be awesome. I would re-buy.

I'm sure this will get a Blu-ray release, probably around the same time the remake comes out.

Right around the same time Tron 2.0 comes out, either theatrically or when it hits BD/DVD.

I agree with everyone else. I'm sure Disney is planning to release it surrounding Tron 2.0 (which should hit theaters sometime in 2011, I believe). They could either release before the theatrical release to promote the new movie, or they could wait and just release them together on Blu-ray. By the way, it's not a remake, it's an actual sequel.

Here's a much older Flynn looking a bit pissed. A sampling of what ComiCon got this past year.

There's a chance for ANY movie to be released on Blu-ray.

^ Especially a popular one. Although, I suspect we won't be seeing gems like Carrot Top's Chairman of the Board anytime soon.

Didn't Disney announce that the BD of Tron was coming to coincide with the release of Tron 2.0?

Re: Any chance of Tron being released on Blu-ray?

From Blu-ray.com--
During a recent interview, Tron director Steven Lisberger said that he has just spent six weeks remastering the movie for Blu-ray and performing subtle tweaks. As to the actual release date, Lisberger didn't give any specifics as it is up to the studio, but he said that it would be "sooner rather than later."

Earlier this year, this title had been rumored to be coming out in November, a month ahead of the theatrical release of its sequel Tron Legacy. Now it seems likelier that it will be tied in to the home video release (like the Fantasia 2 Movie Collection and The Sorcerer's Apprentice).

This is a good piece regarding the BD release, which I'm willing to believe is accurate: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/10/27/...e-tron-bluray/

There needs to be a BD release.

I seem to have misplaced my DVD copy of Tron (since someone obviously borrowed it and I can't remember who) the only reason I'm not bent out of shape about it is it just meant I'll grab the BR when it finally gets released.

How true this turned out to be, with Troll 2, and now Ishtar on the way.

Yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense. And I wouldn't say their fear is unfounded either. I mean, I can't imagine kids these days appreciating Tron like some of us do. There would inevitably be bad word of mouth and people would be hesitant about seeing Tron: Legacy. As much as I enjoy the first movie, I still recognize that by today's standards the effects do look outdated; but when I first saw it it was mind-blowing, something kids these days won't appreciate as readily.

I think I'd rather get 'em both on Blu-ray at the same time actually. Bound to be more promotions and sales that way.

Re: Any chance of Tron being released on Blu-ray?

I never saw the original and know nothing about Tron, so I would definitely like to see this get a Blu-Ray release before the new film comes out.

All I know is that...I HATED Tron when I watched it on TV. Always looked like the brightness was too high and it was all soft looking. No image quality has bothered me but this one did.
