How did I miss this before? Gonna brew a cut of tea and sit down and read.

Good to see Bill chime in. His contacts were totally spot on with how awesome those Star Trek movies looked on Blu-ray... No EE/DNR at all. (and yes, that was sarcasm)

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Talk about the Anthology got me interested in Alien movies again, so I got out my quad set last night and threw the first movie in the Panasonic BD player. Selected DTS audio and hit play. THX trailer plays, then movie comes on...and freezes every three seconds while the sound is completely silent. Tried switching DTS output from bitstream to PCM (haven't had to do this for other DTS DVDs I've played), and no joy. Switched audio to DD and all was solved.

Looked up some old forum posts and found that this was apparently a fairly common glitch back when the set first came out, with some players unable to play the DTS track. (Until this player, I never had any hardware for listening to DTS so I never bothered trying before). Seems weird that a BD player made in 2009 still can't play a seven year-old DTS track.

Oh well...movie will be out in lossless before too long!

Yeah...first problem disc I've had with this Panny. Bought it last Christmas and until now has played any disc (BD or DVD) and any audio codec I've thrown at it without a hitch (which, according to specs, it's supposed to).

I put on another DTS DVD title just to check and make sure the player wasn't crapping out and it played fine so something about that Alien disc it doesn't like.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Take this for what it's worth, but I stopped by the Anthology booth at Comic Con where they were showing the preview. The scenes I saw looked absolutely gorgeous and I noticed that there was still film grain in the shots.

I asked one of the people working the booth if this was taken from the new remasters and she confirmed that it was. It's also completely possible she had no idea what she was talking about and it's entirely possible that I was just riding the high of my first Comic Con, but I was impressed.

Phew.

Still a rental until the set drops to about $60. Good to see they didn't Predator this release.

Yeah....I can't spend all that on essentially 2 films and shit ton of special features I want. 60 is the number I'll drop the cash for.

Yeah, the blue tones are on the level of Terminator 2

I don't even remember the last two movies, so essentially I'd only want the first two...but I'm a completist, so even if they were available individually, I wouldn't buy them. I'm such a sucker (I own Zombies Halloween II on Blu-ray for fucks sake). I have it pre-ordered from Amazon for $93...but that's just incase it magically drops in the next few weeks. Otherwise it gets canceled.

I did see it for 37whatever on Amazon.UK, which is like $80ish shipped. But I just have a feeling this will drop like a rock. At least BTTF is sub $50 (and comes with Digital Copies which will net me $15 when I sell them on eBay).

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

I wish there were more posted pics from the BRs of Alien and Aliens. Some of the iconic scenes. I'd like to make patterns from them for my pumpkins this year.

The BR set will come out too late for me to make patterns.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

Using some decade and a half laserdisc transfer against Jim Cameron, who made sure to quality-control "Avatar" on every possible screen type and size just to make sure it looked perfect on all of them beyond the biggest, most expensive studio screens....well I don't like dumbass internet terms like "Epic Fail", but if the shoe fits.....

translation: told ya so.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

So glad to see this release wasn't Predator-ized! This Blu-Ray is in my top 4 most wanted Blu-Rays coming out this year along with the Back to the Future & Lethal Weapon Box Sets and Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

Re: Alien Anthology - Oct. 26th

The comparisons between the BDs and the DVDs are like night and day. It makes it so much more harder to wait for a decent price on the BD set, but I learnt my lesson from spending $100 on the Quadrilogy DVD only to see it drop to $20 later on.
