Remember, David Prior confirmed this will be a six-disc BD set in the states and that we will see ALL of the extras plus new ones.

I wonder what the "Shock & Awe: The Return of Alien with Danny Boyle" feature is all about. Probably just Boyle discussing the importance of the franchise, but maybe something more?

Danny Boyle was courted by Fox to direct the fourth movie after Trainspotting came out; I don't think it got much further than early discussions until he dropped out and directed A Life Less Ordinary instead. Probably will be just him rhapsodizing about Alien, but I'd like to hear what happened on the fourth movie.

Really looking forward to this set.

Where are you getting that from? I was under the impression all the cut footage was people saying what incompetent assholes Fox were being. About 95% of the stuff listed above sounds like extended riffs on the various special effects.

I dunno...

Alien 3
* Fincher's Alienation (3'40")
* Hick's Alternate Future (1'54")
* Renny Harlin quits (1'51")
* Sucking up to Fincher (6'30")

I guess what I said is only half true. It does prove that the new material is not that old EPK, but I guess it's not clear whether or not these are all the extensions.

If Danny Boyle is talking, I will be listening!

Any word on the Alien Saga and Legacy docs being included?

Pretty sure The Alien Saga is confirmed.

Actually, he didn't. He has nothing to do with this set.

Fox, however, has confirmed all of the above.

Yeah, I still have the Legacy DVD, I was considering throwing it in with my quadrilogy to get a higher selling price for it. Maybe I'll just hang onto it.

So, two BD's for the extras? I'm guessing those will be exclusive to the box set, and it'll just be single discs whenever the films are available separately...

That's good enough for me to upgrade from the old, flimsy pain-in-the-ass fold-out digipack. That was no way to release an archive-worthy film series on DVD.

As we inch closer to an official announcement, Amazon has posted their pre-order: $139.99 list, currently $97.99.

ehhhh...still too high for me. I'll hold off..but I really want Alien and Aliens + all the special features in the Quadrilogy. Not so much for 3 and 4.

if that msrp is correct, it should be a little under $90 if DD has a Fall sale again.

As badly as I want the first two, that's still way too high for two films I will never watch again.

I'll just repost what I stated in the Fox announcement thread...

Based upon the SRP, I might have to have some patience on purchasing that Alien set.

The Planet of the Apes set holds a $129.99 price point. I was able to score it at $45, however that was almost a year and a half after its initial release.

The Mel Brooks set holds a $139.99 price point and it was available for $55 three months after its release (the same time the Apes set was heavily discounted).

Another studio, Paramount, set a $139.99 price on their original Star Trek motion picture set which I scored less than a month after its release from Fry's for $55.

I may bite the bullet at $60-70, but anything after that? Meh.
Even with what I've posted, Fox catalog titles tend to go on sale pretty quickly after their released. I wouldn't be surprised if we see this around $79, if not cheaper, on release date.

actually, I remember getting the POTA set for something like $46 in the DD sale - when it streeted.
On second thought, that might have been my 'net upgrade cost' after I sold off the Legacy set.

Unfortunately the Quadrilogy set is so low-balled now at retail regularly, that I don't think selling it will make much impact on what I would have to pay for the Bd set.

I just saw the specs from the Aussie press release, and it sounds like a winner- but I'll have to wait and see how much the first two are worth it for me at the end of the year- and what else gets announced in the mean-time.

From Blu-ray.com:

IGN has the scoop on the release date and details for the Alien Anthology, which will come out in the US on October 26. This six-disc set contains about 60 hours of special features and over 12,000 images, including material from the legendary early 1990s LaserDisc release, the "Legacy" release and the Quadrilogy DVDs. 20th Century Fox claims that the four Alien films have been "reinvigorated for an intense Blu-ray high-definition viewing experience."

New, previously unreleased content includes original screen tests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original Alien, unseen deleted scenes, and the previously unseen original cut of "Wreckage and Rage: The Making of Alien3" (previously only available in truncated form).

It was probably already a day one purchase for me, but this footage guarantees it.
