Blu-ray Movies to be Bundled along with PS3 games on the same disc

Not sure I like this for a variety of reasons... Will studios code movies so later on they could fit on the BD25/50 along with game? Since most games based off films come out at the same time as the movies...it would have to be later on when the movie would be "bundled" with the game. If they want to toss Transformers BD in the Transformers PS3 case it makes sense...but on the same disc?

We are actively pushing, and the way that we see the future is that the movie and the game are placed on the same disc. There are a lot of developers who say, we have this game based on a movie, wouldn't it be great to marry these concepts? We will definitely see this stuff this year.

Sony will be changing its name to Sorry in a few years.

Get ready for the Sony PS3 Blu-ray Slicer Chopper Gamer, coming to an infomercial near you in 2011.

That's already happened with Stranglehold, which has Hard Boiled on it.

I hope this leads to more video game tie-ins. Wrestler is one I'd like to see soon. Maybe Doubt after that.

That sucks.

Sony once thought, no one will buy Blu-rays unless we include it in the Playstation 3.

Now, Sony is thinking no one's buying PS3 games, let's unless include movies with them!

Well, it certainly makes your purchasing choices easy. If it's a Sony movie, you don't buy it. Easy as pie. But I think this will be far less frequent than they're making it seem. For one thing, as Gizmo pointed out, video game tie-ins are usually tied to coincide with the theatrical release, not the home video release. For another, they're not going to just drop movie-only Blu-rays in favor of this. I imagine we'll see it maybe twice and then it will drop off the map.

Re: Blu-ray Movies to be Bundled along with PS3 games on the same disc

They talked about doing this with Playstation 2 but as far as I know it never happened. The DVD of the "Final Fantasy" movie was supposed to have a PS2 game on it, or something that would let you watch the movie in some 'interactive' mode on it, but it doesn't.

And I'm not planning on getting a PS3 anytime soon, they just cost too much. Maybe if the prices ever go down.

That's one way to move the Uwe Boll back catalog

Still, Hard Boiled was not HD. I remember that Sony and Universal did the same with a Mummy game a couple of years ago. I don't like that idea at all, especially since Sony and other studios will be looking to charge a premium price for these games.

I could care less what they package with the game as long as I can buy the same movie seperate. Most games released to tie into a theatrical film suck.

I hope this move will prompt some new tie-in games as well. I'd love to be able to watch My Dinner with Andre on Blu-ray, and then play My Dinner with Andre on the PS3.

Glad to see Sony trying to make the format more irrelevant than it already has become.

IIRC on Hard Boiled, you couldn't just pop it in any BD player. I think you actually had to get to it through the game menu so you could only use a PS3. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I am assuming these would play on any player. Still don't like the idea though.

I'm not all that down on this idea. If they want to include the a film as an "extra" for a video game, as long as a standard release does not suffer for it, I am fine with it.

However, this does show that BD is not essential for gaming (yet).

You'll just have to make do with your complete set of action figures for now.

Well by the time a movie hits home video release who'd want the video game anymore? I mean wouldn't it be worth it to get the BD edition of say WALL-E with the PS3 version of the retail game?

I don't understand you're argument. PS3s are still priced cheaper than the majority of the decent Blu-ray players on the market. Considering all the features it comes with (like wireless upgrades!), I think it is a good deal.

Not anymore. $399 for a PS3 or $299 for a Panasonic 35k/55k (price keeps changing)? Same with the Sony S550. In coming months (weeks maybe), we have tons of 2.0 BD Players with TrueHD/DTS MA Internal decoding. Buying a PS3 as a Blu-ray player is so 2008.

If the games cost the same and the movies are also available separately, I don't really see a problem with them doing something like this. It's Sony, though, so they'll probably find a way to make it much more horrible than it sounds.

Sony had this idea a few years back with packaging UMD movies with some of there DVDs (upping the price obviously). None of them actually came out (stateside at least).
