Pitch Black & Chronicles of Riddick - 3/31/09

HDROOM:

Both Pitch Black and its sequel The Chronicles of Riddick will be available March 31 on Blu-ray Disc either individually or together in a two-pack.

Each film will be presented in 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, the latter an upgrade over HD DVD. There's a chance D-BOX Motion Code will be available as well though no confirmation has come from the studio as of yet.

As with the previous HD DVD versions, Pitch Black is receiving a more robust and interactive package than Chronicles of Riddick.

.........

the individual releases have a retail price set at $29.98 while the 2-pack is marked at $59.98. High resolution cover art and Amazon pre-order information will be shared for both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick as soon as they are available.

Cool. Figured these had to be coming soon since the UK has them.

But please Uni, let's pick up the pace on *new* catalog releases!

Not as crazy about Riddick, but I'll still get the two-pack I think.

Good news. I sold off my HD-DVD of Pitch Black at a premium and have been waiting for the Blu-ray to appear.

Let's hope Pitch Black comes with all the content from both the original and special edition DVDs, and Chronicles of Riddick includes all the content that was on the BB exclusive bonus disc.

It's unfortunate the animated short Dark Fury isn't included as I thought it was pretty cool, and well done.

I'm still holding out hope that it will be included once the specs come out.

I've got Riddick on HD DVD but never got around to getting pitch black, so I'll most likely pick that one up for sure - if I can find the two pack for a reasonable price, I'll grab it (assuming they don't screw these ones up...)

What's a premium for an HD-DVD? Seriously, I have Pitch Black and Riddick HD-DVDs, and, with the Blu-rays coming, I'd love to sell them for a premium...

For a time, Pitch Black was fetching $15+ after the format died. Unusual for a title like that.

Seems like it's going for ~$10 new at the moment on Amazon.

I got it as a freebie and sold it for $15 in anticipation of the BD. Not really a premium I guess but still a decent profit.

Actually it's probably more of a tie-in with the Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena game that comes out the following week.

I already have both of these on HD-DVD, but if they added Dark Fury to one of the titles that would get me to rebuy. Chronicles looks awesome in HD.

Re: Pitch Black & Chronicles of Riddick - 3/31/09

There is no D-Box for either release (I couldn't find it at least).

Pitch Black has dropped the "Raveworld Event" feature (no biggie, it was a POS). Pitch Black has all the features by themselves and a U-Control track. Love how they are advertising the 2002 Xbox Riddick game (The Game is On feature) and not the new one a small advertisement for the new game is inside the case)

Chronicles of Riddick has the same features as the HD DVD + U-Control.

Both on BD50's

Pitch Black was the first HD DVD I watched when I upgraded to the front projector/100-inch screen, and it was stunning. Curious to see if the BD is any better...

They give you the option to buy they Riddick films seperatly, but you have to buy all three films of The Fast and the Furious. Kind of unfair.

Looks identical IMO. Both VC1 encodes though the Blu-ray probably peaks a bit higher on the mbs (no biggie).

That's good to hear. I won't replace it until my XA1 dies, then.

Excellent! I love them advertising for a system that's been defunct for more than two years now!
Hey, maybe once ET finally hits Blu-ray, they'll throw a promo on it for the infamous Atari 2600 game too!!

Re: Pitch Black & Chronicles of Riddick - 3/31/09

The only 3 customer reviews on Amazon for Chronicles of Riddick claim it has a playback issue. Apparently it's been freezing. I was about to order but will wait now until this gets sorted out.
