Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

Fucking Best Buy. We don't have one in my city but my parents happened to go out of town this week to a city that has one so I thought they'd be able to score one for me. Nope the guy tells them to try ordering online. Well that'd be nice if they actually had it available for shipping. Bastards. Put in my pre-order of E.T. which I hadn't planned on buying right away but if Jaws is any indication these might be hard to get.

I discovered something I didn't know about BB yesterday...even though I prebooked the digibook at $29.99 for in-store pick up, they still give you the sale price ($24.99). Knowing this, I'm going to be a lot less hesitant about prebooking from them in the future. Love the digibook version, it was worth the extra few $$$.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

I had planned to go to BB yesterday but a friend/coworker had an emergency and I covered until he could get to work. I went to BB this morning and they didn't have the digibook nor regular blu. I asked if they were getting any of the digibook in and they said that they didn't think so but that I could order online and go back to the store tomorrow to pick up a copy. However, I don't really live near the BB. I drove home and stopped at a couple of Walmarts and a Target and NOTHING. Empty spaces with SKU codes and no copies.

I went home and bought it off of Amazon along with Godzilla vs Megalon and Juan of the Dead. Sheesh. Sorry, bricks and mortar people, I tried to buy from you.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

I called one of the local Best Buy's at 10:15 and they said there was one copy left and they put it on hold for me. Looked a bit on my way to get it and couldn't even find where they put the new releases.

Glad I got it. I bought Jaws on VHS, then the next version w/bonus stuff, then DVD, then the newer DVD and now this one. They have gotten me five times.

If you absolutely "gotta have it", it's in general release in Canada: Jaws DigiBook

Ugh..I'd consider it but it comes to $47 and change after shipping and all. Hopefully Best Buy gets more in stock.

Yeah, I know. I should have pre-ordered it I guess but I didn't think the stock would be this limited. It's only one day after release after all. Supposedly Best Buy is getting more according to Universal's Facebook page. Hopefully they stock more online too.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

This and Royal Tenenbaums are impossible to find right now. Went to a Best Buy in L.A. yesterday where Tenenbaums was listed in stock on the website and was not there. Jaws was also totally gone at that location. We're talking early afternoon, before most people have even gotten off of work, on RELEASE DAY... how many sales were lost because these stores have no understanding of film fans or the demand these types of releases would come with?

I really like to support brick and mortar stores, but I could've had both in my hands on day 1 (or earlier), without having to drive around town on a wild goose chase had I ordered from Amazon. Big fail, stores.

Plenty of RT (8-10) in 2nd store I checked, which I gladly picked up. But you're right, I felt the same way... not having an item in stock on day one is a big turn off. Yeah, it's a meaningless small item to them...but if I have a bad experience with that - why would I go back for the big items?

Especially considering both were featured in their weekly flyer.

Just watched this. Absolutely incredible picture quality. The crispness and detail are simply amazing for a film that old.

Went to BestBuy and picked up the "Regular" BR, they had no DigiBooks left but they had about 6 "Regular" BR in the rack.

Saw JAWS in the theater when I was a young teen, I was so scared I was afraid to take showers or go to sleep (I had nightmares about that man eating shark).

So, of coarse I went home and watched the movie.

Just like Autotelik and other members of DVDTALK, I was most impressed with the VQ. Watching it made me grateful that Universal took the time to create a FANTASTIC transfer. Several times through out the movie, I found myself smiling because of how good the VQ was.

The movie really held up well for a movie coming up on 40 years old. The performances were as good as I remember them to be.

Half the time Quint was talking, I could not help to think of HARVEY KORMAN'S take on the character. Even though I had not seen the skit from the Carol Burnett show, I found my laughing out loud, not because of the movie but because Harvey really nailed it - "Thats a boo boo", "No the wife"...

Time Conway - "She would have made it if she wouldn't have been wearing her good luck ham"

That's what I'm doing as well. I went before work on Tuesday to pick it (and The Royal Tenenbaums) up, and they were already out of the digibook. They only had a couple left of the regular case, so I grabbed that. It's certainly better than nothing...

But did it SAY "limit two per customer"?? NOPE. When I checked online to see which store had any, out of 15 stores in the Chicago area, only ONE showed up as having any in stock.

I read this and was reminded of the Zombieland "Nut Up or Shut Up" Edition where several BB stores I tried said that they only received ONE copy. Some never received ANY.

I haven't had a chance to throw this in yet, but I did check out everything in the digibook. It sure is one sexy beast.

I just don't get it when people are surprised that movies that were released more than 10 minutes ago look good. The 35 mm film and cameras of 1975 aren't much different from the 35 mm film of today. Some of the best-looking Blu-rays I have are of older films, some dating back to the 1920s.

I guess somebody forgot to replace the placeholder text.
