I hope they stick to that date this time. Fingers crossed.

I hope they manage to include all of the extras from the eleven-hundred previous releases of this title.

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

I think this was another of the 2007 delayed titles. Hopefully they went back and added the extras like they did with Silence of the Lambs. Most of that group were featureless.

It also says "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available" and "Aspect ratio 1.33".

Give me this, The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth and I could retire.

I don't know... the last DVD looked pretty fantastic. It's gonna be a hard title to upgrade to.

JimRochester 01-19-09 03:29 PM

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

I still have the original non-anamorphic disc so this will be an upgrade for me. Not really worried about the extras because I don't have any now so I won't miss any.

I'm very busy, I have a wedding to plan, my wife's murder, and the people of guilder to frame for it, I'm booked!

Fixed!

Normally I don't care about extras but this is one of those movies I'll watch everything for. I like the documentary that was on the last couple versions.

I think I'm on my 3rd DVD version. I had the non-anamorphic 8 years ago, upgraded to the SE for the special features, and then got the Dread Pirate Roberts edition. Didn't bother with the 20th anniversary edition.

Isn't the 20th Ann. Version the same thing as the Dread Pirate/ Buttercup version? I have the SE and the 20th version. I had the original release but dumped it for the SE...

Doesn't look like it. I compared the features and it looked like the 20th had all new features, but nothing really worth another dip. Plus it omitted the As You Wish documentary which was stupid. I think the SE and the DPE were pretty much the same.

The Digital Bits is showing the most recent (cool) cover art if indeed this is approved final product
http://thedigitalbits.com/articles/m...definalbrd.jpg

Also, this would normally go in The Rumor Mill (so salt accordingly), but our industry sources are telling us that Fox and MGM are getting ready to announce more new catalog Blu-ray titles in the weeks ahead, including The Princess Bride (reportedly due on 3/17), along with Big and There's Something About Mary (expected in May).

I never got any of the DVD versions of this, but I need more fun, lighthearted adventure in my collection, so I think I'll pick this up.

Big? Damn it. I'm about to trade in a bunch of DVDs and I'd like to hear specs on Big. I guess it doesn't matter either way, but it'd be nice if the BD of Big actually included the Penny Marshall commentary mentioned in the box copy.

I still have a factory sealed DVD of Big. I hate it when I upgrade something I haven't even opened yet.

As *I* wish. Please be true. Easy upgrade for me. I think I'll pull out my copy of the book and re-read it in hopeful preparation for this release! :D

nice to see the confirmation

as always with these catalog releases price is out of wack with reality and the current day climate so I once again will not be purchasing on street and will wait for a price drop

lastly the inclusion of the dvd copy on this release is both baffling and a waste

Uhhh, no you don't. 34.99 MSRP is consistent with what MGM has been charging for their new catalogs and they're throwing a free dvd copy so you're not paying for the dvd.

Definately need to upgrade my first gen DVD but will wait for a reasonable price. Especially now I'm picking up HD DVDs for $5, let me get through some of those before I worry about $30 BDs

If forced to choose I'd still rather have the DVD than a digital copy.

Even Columbia House now has The Princess Bride BD up for pre-order. For those of us with CH accounts this is good news, especially if they do another BOGOF Blu-ray offer.

aintnosin 02-27-09 11:57 AM

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

Amazon has it and listed as $31.49 (!). I gotta think that'll come down. $35 MSRP BDs usually sell for $25 out of the gate.

Read on blu-ray.com earlier today that Walmart has it priced in-store for $19.99.

which is basically the same price as Amazon after tax (22.99)

I'll wait till it hits 14.99

Yes but for those of us in NY Amazon charges tax so it's still a savings.
