Thanks for the pics, although a link to AVS would have sufficed :p

Does this come in the recycled case?

RockyMtnBri 03-18-09 03:24 PM

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

Yes - if you look on the left inner side of the case you'll see three big curved arrow cutouts in the shape of the recycling logo.

This one is a no-brainer for us. The wife and I saw this in the theater, have the original non-anamorphic DVD and always been a family favorite. Will definately be grabbing this one.

As well. I'm careful about my purchases, but this one is an easy decision.

Alright. Keep your hair on, grandad. :p

I just thought I'd make it easy for everyone rather than have to search another thread. :)

Kind of frustrating that there aren't many reviews on the Princess Bride BD a couple days after it's release. Looking around at Amazon & Deep Discount, Ebay etc. I couldn't even verify which cover was being sold in the US. Still not sure if there are different covers floating around. I finally went to Walmart this morning, this is the cover they are selling:

Cover shown on DD, Amazon & others:

Not sure if the case is recycled or not as I haven't opened it yet, but it is not flimsy or bendable at all, which was apparently a problem with some Silence of the Lambs BD cases. The Princess Bride BD case, at least the one I have looks & feels like a standard BD case.

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

I think the other cover is from when it was announced and cancelled back in 2007.

It does not have the flimsy case Silence Of The Lambs had, but I suspect that could be due to having 2 discs - maybe they don't have a recycled materials one for those yet.

That's because FOX doesn't usually ship out their Blu-ray screeners to reviewers until the day-of or shortly after release date - particularly with catalog stuff.

The "Recycle" cases from FOX just plain suck. THE ROBE release comes in one of these too...I hope they stop this trend before other studios decide to join in.

I would hope they perfect it rather than stop it.

So, can anybody sum up what features are prsent/missing from the various other SDVD releases?

Hope the Bonds don't have those cases either.

We have 5 different SD editions, right?

original release (no special features but unique booklet)

SE (2 commentaries and other features)

2 disc Dread Pirate edition (most old and some new special features)

2 disc Buttercup edition (same as above except the packaging and disc art?)

2007 20th Anniversary edition (none of the older special features, but all new ones)

the 1080p presentation and DTS MA audio was enough for me since my DVD was the first edition non-anamorphic flipper POS.

Also includes 2 commentaries, 7 featurettes and the Cary Elwes video diary. Plus the SDDVD of the film.

I did a comparison of the back covers on my DPR DVD and the Blu-ray, and so far the only thing that seems to be missing is the trivia game on the DPR version.

Received my Princess Bride BD on Monday. I really like that cover art. I think it is one of the best in my entire disc collection.

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

Just got done seeing this. It had a couple areas where it looked "overprocessed?" Wallace Shawn's head sparkled during the Iocane powder scene. In spite of a couple scenes looking a little sparkley, this was so much better than the original release it was like watching the movie for the first time all over again. Looked great for a movie more than 20 years old.

My wife and I saw this movie in the theater when it was released in 1987 and always loved it. This was probably Cary Elwes' best performance and some of the funniest stuff from Billy Crystal.

We watched this today as well and it was a great transfer with a more adequate audio. I know there are tons of special features and the cover is awesome.

Agreed... saw this today and the PQ was outstanding. Might just have to pick this up.

I'll probably get this. It's lame, though, I bought the Dread Pirate Roberts edition online several months ago, because I thought Fox would screw us on the special features. I'm certainly not complaining that they included everything, but I wish they'd be consistent.

As someone who usually doesn't care about features I will admit I enjoyed these. Instead of the typical fluff pieces, they had some really nice retrospective interviews from Chris Sarandon, Mandy Patinkin, Robin Wright-Penn, Cary Elwes, and Chris Guest. They had some touching remembrances about Andre the Giant as well.

When I saw this movie in 1987 I was married about a year and I remember seeing Robin Wright and thinking how striking she was. Not a classic beauty but very pretty. I felt guilty lusting after some young starlet with my wife sitting next to me. Fortunately time heals all so now I no longer feel guilty when I lust after hot young starlets.

Normally I'm patient, but since I didn't have a decent version there was no question but to pick it up. Then with the bonus DVD it was a no-brainer. This way my daughter can still watch a better version on the portable or in our bedroom.
