Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

nice to see the confirmation

as always with these catalog releases price is out of wack with reality and the current day climate so I once again will not be purchasing on street and will wait for a price drop

lastly the inclusion of the dvd copy on this release is both baffling and a waste

Wonderful. We get to pay extra for a DVD copy.

Uhhh, no you don't. 34.99 MSRP is consistent with what MGM has been charging for their new catalogs and they're throwing a free dvd copy so you're not paying for the dvd.

Definately need to upgrade my first gen DVD but will wait for a reasonable price. Especially now I'm picking up HD DVDs for $5, let me get through some of those before I worry about $30 BDs

Extra for a DVD copy? Inconceivable!

As others have said, at least it seems to have all the extras.

If forced to choose I'd still rather have the DVD than a digital copy.

Even Columbia House now has The Princess Bride BD up for pre-order. For those of us with CH accounts this is good news, especially if they do another BOGOF Blu-ray offer.

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

Amazon has it and listed as $31.49 (!). I gotta think that'll come down. $35 MSRP BDs usually sell for $25 out of the gate.

Yes but for those of us in NY Amazon charges tax so it's still a savings.

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

You're in for a treat. I was really surprised by the low end of the audio. Usually when 5.1 mixes are made of old stereo tracks not only does the surround content sound artificial but so does the bass which tends to be excesively boomy. Although there's not much in terms of surround use, the lower end was a lot deeper than I ever remembered. Yet it didn't have that excessive boominess I was expecting/fearing.

Re: The Princess Bride 3/17 (?)

Are there good reviews or picture comparisons? This is one of my favorite movies but I just bought the recent anniversary DVD a little while ago (after owning the old Special Edition before). Trying to decide if it's a no brainer upgrade.

I actually forgot about the extra DVD copy and was pleasantly surprised, as I can now sell of my Dread Pirate Roberts edition and still have a DVD around if I want it.

Picked this up yesterday and gave my 2nd gen DVD (anamorphic) to a friend who has never seen the film! I'll be watching this sometime soon!
