It's Sony's fault for giving it such a confusing name, unlike Toshiba did with HD-DVD.

Spoiler:
Yes, I know it's HD DVD

I fear we are fighting a losing battle, Gizmo.

[Edit] But at least the forum description is now correct. Woohoo!

Please use a question mark in your thread titles when you're asking a question, so people don't think you're posting an announcement.

I don't find Blu-ray confusing at all, what with the big blue logo printed on everything.

And 2 syllables is better than 5! That's an efficient name.

From releaselists.com...

From a couple of rumor sources the date of May 5 has been given for the blu-ray release of the first six Star Trek films plus the first season of the original Star Trek series. In my opinion it does seem a little close to the release of new film, and includes Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which was apparently not to be released in this round due to the need for new FX. Time will tell how accurate this is, as my guess would have been a few weeks before this.

New FX? The stuff they did for the original dvd special edition wouldn't cut it? I thought that one received the most work out of all the original films anyway.

I believe the FX that were on the special edition were rendered in 480 and are being redone in 1080.

TheDigitalBits had something about this a little while back and it seemed odd to me that the FX had been rendered at DVD resolution because when this first came out there was talk of a limited theatrical re-release and that would need to be at least 1080 or higher to look okay on the big screen right?

I wouldn't mind having a copy of the theatrical cut for historical purposes, but something else I seem to remember is that Paramount agreed to Robert Wise's request back then that the theatrical cut never be released again?

I'd ask if they were really so short-sighted as to only render the FX at 480, but considering this is Hollywood that would be a rhetorical question, wouldn't it?

I hope that when the seasons are released on Blu-ray, Paramount puts them in normal cases and not those stupid shells the remastered sets are in.
