What were your favorite Blu-ray's this year?

So which Blu-ray's would you deem the best of the year? And what ones were your personal favorites and why?

There are so many to list but here are some of my favorites (all of which I picked because of excellent audio/video and strong films):

Chungking Express
Bottle Rocket
Lost: Season 4
Jerry Maguire
The Godfather Trilogy
The Bond Re-Issues
The Dark Knight
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
Kill Bill V.1 and V.2
From Dusk Till Dawn
Sin City
Gattaca
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The M. Night Shyamalan Films (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Happening)

Those were my favorites of this year.

If I had to pick one, I would have to say Band of Brothers. Just love everything from the video, audio and packaging and it's my all time favorite TV mini-series.

If I have to pick only one BD then hands down it is Michelangelo Antonioni's Red Desert! It is everything I want Blu-ray to deliver - fantastic transfer and a beautiful package for the type of cinema Blu-ray was meant for. Perfection!!

If I had to pick a domestic release my vote goes to Criterion's The Third Man.

I also hope that 2009 is when Koch Lorber Films will enter the Blu-ray market and release La Dolce Vita. Above all, however, I look forward for an announcement from Criterion about L'eclisse and L'avventura.

If I had to pick just one, it would probably be How The West Was One, really epitomizes what the format can do for older films & how we need more Westerns in Blu.

Other favorites. . .

Firefly
The Fall
Mad Men: Season 1
Band of Brothers
The Sand Pebbles
POTA Box Set
Chungking Express
Nightmare Before Christmas
Wall-E

Amen! And they need to bring their Wertmuller and Itami libraries along, too!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

I also have to add this to my favorites list this year: Almost Famous: Extended Cut Blu-ray (U.K. Import).

Do I really have to narrow it down? So many great ones!

While the picture is soft, Forgetting Sarah Marshall has been my most-watched disc.

Sleeping Beauty is awesome in every way.

The Godfather: The Coppola Restoration is an obvious choice.

Ah, what the hell. Some others:

Band of Brothers
The Dark Knight
Enchanted
Firefly
Ironman
The Nightmare Before Christmas
WALL-E

The Godfather Trilogy is my favorite of the year, but Wall-E and Sleeping Beauty are right up there.

Wall-E, which is aided immensely by the excellent Pixar Story documentary.

It has all been said before, but I loved Wall-E, Band of Brothers, Sleeping Beauty, The Godfather Coppola Restoration Boxed Set, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Iron Man, and Planet of the Apes.

The older films I mentioned (including the old black and white the day the earth stood still), looked really great. They surprised me. If you want to go with probably the most impressive picture overall while taking everything into account such as restoration and age, then Sleeping Beauty has got to be one of the most impressive releases of the year... period. The Nightmare Before Christmas is definitely impressive as well. And as far as live action goes, The Godfather 1 and 2, I mean, come on. A great restoration was done on those.

Aside from many that have been mentioned (especially Kill Bill 1 & 2, Wall-E, Lost, and Mad Men), I would have to add a little gem called:

No Country For Old Men
