Updating SONY firmware directions?

Sorry guys I'm sure this is redundant but after doing a search I couldn't find it. The BD player thread is getting a little long. I downloaded the latest firmware upgrade for my SONY S300 but I haven't made a disc yet. We used to have the HDDVD upgrades all laid out in one thread. SONY's site was less than helpful was well. Thanks.

Jim,

I don't know if the BDP-S300 is the same, but I used to have to burn my updates for the BDP-S1 to a DVD-R since it does not read CD's at all by design (which is dumb but I digress).

I haven't done it in a while, but from what I remember, what you downloaded from Sony will extract an ISO image to be burned directly to disc as an image, not as a data disc. Most programs like Nero can do this easily.

The master thread for the S300 at AVS would likely have more info on the specifics.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for:
Sony BDP-S300 link

Then click on the BDP-S300 Firmware Update link and scroll down to Download Instructions section.

Then make a CD-R of the firmware download using www.imgburn.com and follow the Sony installation instructions

Looks like the 300 can read CD's so it should be pretty easy to do.

Thanks, that's like what I did for my Toshiba's but I didn't scroll down far enough.

It's also helpful to go to bluraydisc.com...there's a section for firmware upgrades there across most manufacturers.

This is why I love the Panny update. Just dumb the FRM file on a CD as a data file and you're good. No ISO burning or anything like that.

I did the update. It was just like the Toshiba and Nero can burn the ISO image.

Step Brothers still won't play so I'm going to try and exchange the disc.

Supposedly now the s300 can play all the HD audio tracks although the receiver still reads DDigital or DTS where my Toshiba reads DDPlus or DTrueHD, so I'm not sure if I'm really getting the best sound out of it.
