Final HD DVD release? Death Proof

Just read a thread on AVS Forum. Supposedly this wasn't allowed to be released until the BRD version. I may have to get a copy of this*. You can order here but not Amazon.de apparently.

* Not starting a format fight, please don't start one here either. Only interested in a final piece of HD DVD history and the ironic nature of the final title.

Now if it happened to have the trailers that ran after Planet Terror and before Death Proof it would be worth something for sure.

This was pressed a long time ago and has been sitting in boxes in a warehouse ever since Toshiba threw in the towel. They couldn't release it because Weinstein didn't release the BDs (similar to Newline where they couldn't release a region free version HD DVD). I ordered two copies so I'll post pictures when they arrive. Its unknown if this will be a Steelbook or just HD DVDs in a jewel case.

I'd like to know which looks better, this or the BD. Oh well, will wait'n'see.

I have (well, when the HD DVD arrives) both.

It's cool that they did this knowing sales won't be great yet you have other companies not finishing a tv series they've started.

Its been pressed for almost a year...so at this point they can either destroy them or make a bit of money off of them. Glad its being released.

No. I can't remember the reason, but only Death Proof made its way to HD DVD not Planet Terror.

Are there any known differences at this point?

I don't see any reason to buy the HD DVD unless it is cheap or it has something special.

Yeah I don't think there is a reason other than having an interesting conversation piece in your collection. That's enough for me. I liked the two movies and I would guess there will be some kind of nice deal with the two on Blu at some point. Like Kill Bill 1 & 2 at Amazon.

The features have never been announced.

I do recall it having a TrueHD track (like the BD). When it arrives, I'll bump this thread with some pictures and if the features are the same. I already have the BD so I'll do some comparisons...interested to see if its identical or not.

IIRC, the movies weren't marketed together as one event in Europe, so maybe that's why they don't seem to be tied together on home video either in that region.

Someone on HDD has it...confirmed to be a Steelbook. The features are listed in German, but it looks like a decent amount so most likely it will be the same as the American BD.
