Re: "Casablanca" BD Packaging

This set is on my short-list of titles I want. I'll probably just display the digipak inside and stuff the extraneous packaging somewhre in my room.

No way I'm buying that Casablanca monstrosity with all that extra carp.

I was big on the unique packaging when I first started to collect DVDs. Those days are over. Now, I'm all about slim/standard packaging.

I'm not wild about the digi-books, and I was pissed when I saw that damn BoB tin. They should have done a Blade Runner type of 5-disc standard sized case.

So, nobody? Should I just try to send it without the UPC label? I mean I'm giving them the fucking money and the receipt. Shouldn't that be enough?

Finally! From Blu-ray.com:

Casablanca Regular Blu-ray Edition Coming Up
An early announcement to retailers indicates that Warner Home Video is set to re-release 'Casablanca' on a regular edition Blu-ray on September 15. So far this great classic had only been available in the US as part of a two-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition (with special packaging and bundled memorabilia), released in December 2008 with a list price of $64.99.

In contrast with that, this upcoming edition will have an MSRP of $28.99. It will only have one disc and hence will not include the documentary "Jack L. Warner: The Last Mogul" contained in the Ultimate Collector's Edition.

Wow, I hope that's an indicator that the same will happen with Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind.

Re: "Casablanca" BD Packaging

Awesome news! Although some people had figured out a workaround:

Turn in your HD version of Casablanca (which would be cheap to buy anyway) via the Red2Blu trade-in. The assumption was that they wouldn't send you the ultra box set version.

Good timing on this news, I was considering ordering the current edition during the sale. Hopefully Woodstock will also get a normal release eventually.

Finally!!!

Could it be that WB is realizing that most people will be happy with a regular edition Blu-ray copy?

It already has a normal release, but it is exclusive to Walmart and available in store only.

If you look on Amazon Marketplace, some people are selling copies of the standard release for less than 15 bones. There's where I got mine, and even though they didn't specify it, my copy was still sealed.

Sticking it to the man.

Re: "Casablanca" BD Packaging

Definitely waiting for a normal release. No way will I pay 50+ for one movie. I'm still waiting for Close Encounters to come down to a reasonable price. 45.99 is too much for one movie even if it does include three barely distinguishable cuts.

Don't know, but they never seem to move any of the ones at my BB.

I see CE3K at $25 all the time....I believe it's been as low as $19.99 on several occasions.

IIRC, I saw it tagged for $29.99 last week. It might have been $39.99 but it was not less than $29.99 or I would have grabbed it.

Re: "Casablanca" BD Packaging

i can see why you didnt pick it up for 29.99
i would have to seriously think about 29.99 if i were buying other items.
perhaps it will come down in the near future, at the very least atleast there is a opition to oversized set.

Re: "Casablanca" BD Packaging

Amadeus is also getting a release in regular packaging, but since that's a typical digibook the difference will just be $5. I'm still glad they're doing it though.

Re: "Casablanca" BD Packaging

I'm not too big on the Digibooks either (they could just put a 30 page booklet in a regular BD case, but no, it's all about the perceived value) but I picked up Amadeus and How the West Was Won when they were $15 at BB a few weeks ago.

I got a copy from J&Rmusic.com for $19.99 a few months ago.
