It appears to be another questionable transfer by an independent studio on Blu-ray. I am not sure any entity would spend much money to restore and faithfully transfer a public domain film to Blu-ray. The return on investment is just too low. The only studios that have the necessary resources and tools to properly release a decent BD of a movie like this are the major studios. But they are not willing to touch most movies in the public domain.

I don't think that's universal. Someone will spend SOME money on Night of the Living Dead, for sure....

Anybody pick this up today and can vouch for what kind of screen format was actually used?

How did Koch turn an Academy ratio film into 16x9?
Shhh. It's magic.

Do you mean that for a film old they could have cropped it to 2.35:1?

If one wanted to watch it at the original 1:33, then I would be pissed off at this release, but I like to fill my HDTV screen when watching animation, so I'm happy. If I got a Full screen 1:33 and then zoomed in to fill my HDTV screen, then it would most likely pixilate, and then I wouldn't like that. So this is why I don't mind them cutting, chopping and doing whatever to this release. I don't care about the film that much anyway ....

Has anyone ever cropped a Full Screen 1:33 film to 2.35:1? That's funny if a DVD company has done that...

Anyone who has read reviews of this film on DVD should just get the Image DVD anyway, which supposedly has the best video quality.

Man that's such a shame. I remembered watching this thing somewhere and while it's not up to Disney or Fleischer's Superman standard, it is still a good and enjoyable film. To release this thing in non-OAR format is an atrocity.
