I thought... a fairly abrupt elipsis that I didn't recall from my many prior viewings? I backed up, watched it again, and it seemed to me that there was a small chunk of the film missing (a little bit from both scenes, the end of the former and the beginning of the latter). But I didn't have another version on hand to compare, and decided to bring it to the experts here... and totally forgot until now.

This is exactly how I remember the transition from the VHS version. I also recall it looking rather abrupt, but AFAIK that is how that transition goes from the kitchen to them swatting bugs in their neighbors' front doorway.

I remember the abrupt cut too. Is it still like that on the Blu-ray release? I haven't watched my copy yet.

Hrm, haven't watched my Blu-ray copy since Halloween, but I believe the cut is still abrupt.

The answer you all seek :)

IIRC, it was cut because the scene involved a Pizza place that didn't want to advertise after the film was ready to be released. Someone was going to come in with pizza...

Thanks, Gizmo! Of course, I have no idea if I've ever seen this scene cut any differently. I also don't have any old VHS tape version, even one I taped for myself off of cable in the really old days, of which I have ton stuffed in a box somewhere. I can't trust my memory on this, so unless an old videotape or reel shows up somewhere, we may never know for certain...

Does the 2010 blu-ray release contain all the special features from the 25th anniversary 2008 blu-ray book release?

Same disc, new package. The only thing missing is the content printed in the book pages.

I just watched this one recently and here's a thought. If they cut a scene due to avoid dropping (probably Pizza Hut's name), why would they have looped Heather O'Rourke's voiceover saying "I want pepperoni pizza" right before she slides across the floor? Her mouth is obviously not moving at all.

Was it like that in theaters? Movies do that all the time.
