I think the James Cameron titles will have to wait for Avatar to be finished. Aliens and The Abyss need new transfers. True Lies has that damn 9/11 stigma attached to it.

Titanic may be up to Paramount, but I'm not sure if Fox has to sign off on it too or not. At least it has a nice master ready to go.

As for Fight Club, maybe it needs a new transfer too? Wasn't the last one done in 1999-2000? Maybe they'll want to wait for Benjamin Button as well.

Paramount has the US distribution rights, but Fox has the rights internationally. I believe the SE DVD a few years back was a joint production between the two studios, which is why I wonder if both studios would have to agree on a BD release.

I'm in for a few of those. Probably most excited about French Connection.

There was someone on Blu-Ray.com that said that both cuts would be included.

That hasn't been confirmed (as far as I know, anyway), but I think the Blu-Ray release would be the perfect chance to put everything from both DVD sets onto one release, for the "definitive" version.

Anyway, I'm up for most of those titles. But as GameOver said, I'd love to see titles like Fight Club, Star Wars (I know, I know, Lucasfilms handles the release), the Alien series, and the non-anamorphic James Cameron titles...

True Lies (1 barebones non-anamorphic DVD version) SE Long overdue!

Aliens (Sells even more)
Fight Club (Who is Blu-Ray)
The Abyss (awesome SE DVD version but still no Anamorpic release)
X-men 1 & 2 (Yes,you would buy them both)
Star Wars episodes 4-6 (yeah right,in my dreams or maybe another 5 years)
Titanic (Ok i will say it,Biggest domestic grossing movie of all time)
There are a whole crapload of titles like these that need to be in HD before Little Miss Sunshine. Yes it was cute movie, but c'mon, Little Miss Sunshine? I have the SE package of Titanic and will say it is absolutely the best looking upconverted SD I have seen. Comedies do very little for me in HD. Give me the Action and Sci-Fi.

According to Titanic/Star Wars/ID4/Terminator DVD producer Van Ling, there's been an anamorphic master of "True Lies" for a long time now, but Cameron hasn't signed off on it because he's been busy with other things (Avatar and all the tech development for that film)

As for "Titanic", Cameron still wants Leonardo DiCaprio to participate in the extras, and that is the primary reason the infamous documentary that was supposed to be included ended up being dropped. If Leo can be involved, the doc will be completed and would likely be on the eventual Blu-ray release. The documentary covered everything the other DVD extras didn't, which is why certain aspects of the film's production (the music being one of them) were not covered on the DVD because they were part of that documentary only.

The HTF has an added forum dedicated to specific industry experts, and that is where this info came from as Van Ling is a participant.

I don't know how well it'd hold up now, but True Lies used to be considered one of the best looking high-definition flicks in HBO-HD's rotation.

Release schedules constantly change, but this was posted by Jeff Kleist (The Digital Bits) the other day: "There should be a lot of James Cameron films next year when Avatar comes out, which ones have yet to be determined, but personally I'm counting on at least T2 reissue, Aliens and Abyss."

I hope so. I love all three of the films you mention, and I would love to finally get a decent version of the Abyss.

I would be in for True Lies and Alien(s). The Abyss was pretty good but I never really loved that movie. At least not enough to drop a $20 bill on the Bluray. Titanic is so damn good already I don't know if I'd bother unless I found it used or a trade.

I'm down for True Lies Blu-ray, but Aliens being released before Alien would be a crime.

Raging Bull and Donnie Darko for me, provided that they're not barebones $40 titles.

To me, this is an awesome announcement of catalog titles. I'll get all of them except Passion of the Christ. Raging Bull, Sideways, Office Space, and French Connection will be mine on release day. I'll probably wait for deals on the others.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'd much rather have these than True Lies, Star Wars, Titanic, X-Men, or Fight Club. I would be in for the Alien films, though.

I want to order Raging Bull and French Connection, but until I get a firmware update that gets Fox titles to play more consistently in my standalone players I may wait. I really have no interest in rewarding Fox with sales when their titles are overpriced and have so many playback issues.

I already have the 5 star version of French Connection which I bought when it was released and there it sits unopened to this day. I can't believe I actually thought of upgrading for a moment.

I wonder if that's the same Anamorphic Transfer that's on my Region 3 (Korea) disc?

According to highdefdigest, the Donnie Darko BD will have both the theatrical and director's cuts of the film ... nice to hear

Re: Fox announces new titles for Qtr 1

It seems that FOX and Friedkin have screwed the transfer for the BD. The film apparently looks like shit, so it's wise that you guys keep the DVD.

I he's also applying the same process to the Exorcist BD release.

Why would he choose to do that for his films? That's horrendous. I can't believe Fox or Friedkin would think that was a good idea. It just makes the films look unnatural and overly processed.

Holy shit, that looks terrible.

This sort of reminds me of the controversy over Bram Stoker's Dracula. At least Friedkin is being upfront about tampering with his movie and not claiming it came from the answer print.
