Eyes Wide Shut HD-DVD Question.
I was wondering if any one knew it there were 2 different versions of the HD-dvd of EWS. On amazon it shows 2 and Unrated version and a normal one. I had thought the HD-dvd had claimed to have both versions on the release but they only added the unrated version? Can anyone confirm if there is only one EWS release and that it is the unrated version. Did amazon just mess up?

IIRC, it was originally stickered incorrectly...someone answered this question for me before but I totally forgot. I think its the Unrated cut on the HD DVD (and BD).

The discs for the two versions are exactly the same, containing only the unrated cut. The only difference is the corrected labeling, which incorrectly stated that the theatrical cut was included as well.

I have the US R1 DVD & the Korean DVD (which is the uncensored version). The HD DVD is anamorphic WS, whereas all the DVD's were open matte fullscreen. It is a noticable improvement over both DVD's, but it's not a reference disc. I prefer Warner's HD DVD's over their BD's for the zooming function, which the BD doesn't have.

Ehhhh, if you don't have a lot of HD titles, this won't impress you for HD. It looks better than the DVD versions, but the film is "grainy". Didn't bother me too much, but it's a title to be "appreciated". Still, higher detail manages to come through if you pay attention.

to add to what Polizei said, the transfer is faithful to how i recall the film looking in the theater. it's just that the intentional look of this film does not lend itself to the "HD pop" that you hear about with some titles. it's not one you would use to demo your home theater, but it's noticeably better than the DVD and the best the title has ever looked.

Speaking of (I'm sure this has been mentioned on the Bargains section), but Fry's now has the HD DVD box sets of Heroes Season 1 and Battlestar Gallactica Season 1 for $24.99. I believe Eyes Wide Shut is selling for $7.99 right now.
