Watched Green Lantern (Extended Cut) this evening. We both enjoyed this movie, for the 3rd time since I bought it.

First time seeing this. Though I know it has a lot of fans, it left me disappointed, The whole first half is basically a shaggy dog story, and when that is made apparent it kind of jaded me to remaining invested for the second half. There's also a sequence that seemed to be a direct source of inspiration (theft) that was one of the dopier bits of business in one of the Indiana Jones films. It was just as awful and improbable here.

I guess it deserves some credit for a very transgressive ending, but I don't know if that is really a positive. To get there, characters (primarily the female lead) spout the most inane, arch dialogue and act in wholly impossible-to-buy ways. There's no real mystery to the proceedings and I was left wondering just what the point of it all was. I know Vampyres is a better film, so I'll have to hope the last feature in the set is more up to that level.
At least Neves was attractive, and frequently unclothed a good amount of time.

Been looking forward to watching this for a while, having picked it up when it first streeted. It got shuttled around buried under a ton of other stuff and I only just found it a week ago.
The experience of watching this reminded me a lot of watching films like In The Bedroom fifteen plus years ago. Good performances, serious adult subject matter, conscientiously crafted- but it's a movie that will, most likely, be a one time watch and will end up getting shuttled around in various tubs again, taking up space for the next ten years because it's no longer worth the effort to try to resell, and I *might* someday want to see it if I no longer own it.
As a film/story the irresolution of it all- while mature, realistic , and intellectually more honest- simply isn't entirely satisfying in a cathartic sense. It's better than a pat, convenient solution to all loose ends, but there's a fine line there and I think it ultimately fell down on the wrong side of it.
I'm chalking it up, with the two from the night before, as 0 for 3 in the blind buy dept.

Yeah, I know.
Objectively, it's simply not a very good movie. Weak , thin characterizations, by-the-numbers plotting, plenty of atrocious green-screen composites- yet I still enjoy it.
A lot of very cool visuals, including a one-of-a-kind, well before steampunk, gothic ship design. Another lovely John Barry score. Some fairly decent mise-en-scenes, set to a brisk pace. It still works as comfort food for me, and after three prior features that weren't entirely satisfying, it was what I needed.
afterwards I started to watch
...but had to eject about twenty minutes in as I was too tired. Looking forward to finishing it though.
Big takeaway so far- Holy Smokes! Janet Leigh wasn't just attractive. She was a Tex Avery style, eye popping, tongue unrolling knockout when she was younger!
And this being a Howard Hughes production, that element is made abundantly clear.

Watched Spiderman: Far From Home this evening. Enjoyed the movie but the audio was outfuckingrageously loud in places. Had to keep turning the volume up & down to hear the dialog or to keep our ears from bleeding. Missed a few times which pissed my wife off...
