re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

God Respects Us When We Work, but Loves Us When We Dance. Merely an okay mini documentary by Les Blank (I think it's roughly 20 minutes). No real commentary...it's just a bunch of film of a bunch of hippies dancing around...Not sure that there's anything special about this one...

Spend It All. Actually a really good Les Blank documentary that profiles the Cajun culture in the Southern United States. Lots of great imagery, and the music is fantastic. Blank really manages to draw you in and shows a part of America that is rarely profiled. I really liked this one, and it's pretty much perfect at its length of about 45 minutes...

Dry Wood. Pretty good documentary by Les Blank. Nothing to write home about, but it was pretty decent...

Stereo. Cronenberg's first feature, available on the Criterion Scanners Blu-Ray. Pretty disappointing. Like Crimes of the Future, this feels more like an intellectual exercise than anything else. I've watched it once, and don't intend to watch it again. It was a bore. Thankfully, it was only like an hour long. Cronenberg went off to much greater things than this...

My 15th choice in my Netflix quee. It was ok and had good intentions.

Don't understand what the big fuss is about Miles Teller. Maybe he might have that everyman quality but he has mediocre acting skills and not a lot of charisma.

Sundays and Cybčle (1962)...wow this was dark. i had no idea what to expect. mom said this was the first movie that made an impression on her and changed the way she saw foreign and domestic films. saying foreign is much more creative, innovative and daring. i agree, especially with Sundays. It made me feel awkward and uncomfortable being school teacher, but i'm glad they didn't cross the true line in this one. the cinematography, the shots and framing were magnificent. you just don't see that a lot in American movies, especially of the independent nature. this was emotional, sad, uncomfortable and really well made. this is one that stays with you for sure. glad it won best foreign pic Oscar.

The 30th choice in my Netflix Que

Maybe if you are a Tween you will love this.

The sets and cinematography were beautiful and the cast was good especially Joel Edgerton who might be one of the better more underrated actors out there and better than Leo though I am a fan of his movies.

For some reason I did not connect with the movie and it was too long.

Amitabh Bachchan must be friends of the director or producers since he seems miscast as a Jewish gangster

My father loved JFK and his politics but these people would have been crucified had they lived in an age of social media. They were whoremasters and profiteers. They did good so people looked the other way.

There's Always Vanilla. Can't really find anything to say about this Romero movie from 1971. Pretty awful in all aspects. Just boring the whole way through. The Arrow Blu-Ray does look pretty good, all things considered.

Season of the Witch. Another Romero movie, this time from 1972. Very underwhelming for the first hour or so, but things really pick up in the last half-hour (and it actually has a great ending, which I'm not going to spoil). This Blu-Ray also looks good, and it has an awesome special feature that just consists of Romero talking to Guillermo Del Toro. It's an awesome sit-down and they really talk about Romero's entire filmography...

re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

Avengers: Infinity War. Can't say I'm a giant fan of this. While it is much, much better than Avengers: Age of Ultron, I'd take Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Thor: Ragnorak over this any day. At a certain point, it really just felt like I was watching battle after battle after battle...

Spoiler:
And I missed Hawkeye and Ant-Man. I also thought that the ending was kind of lame, as you know for a fact that a bunch of those characters are going to get resurrected in the next movie. The only ones that potentially won't are probably the actors who refuse to sign new deals. I was actually surprised that everyone made such a big deal about the ending. Like, is Tom Holland's Spider-Man dead. No, there's a sequel on the way. Same thing with Black Panther. It just seemed like they wanted to make an epic ending, but there wasn't much suspense when the credits stared rolling because I know a ton of those characters will be back. Oh, and that includes the Guardians of the Galaxy members. I did like the Nick Fury/Sam Jackson cameo at the end. I'd love to see him in the next installment. I'd also say that I was surprised what a prominent role Doctor Strange played in this one...I've never been a giant fan of the character, and didn't really care for his solo movie, despite the amazing actors that were in it...And I also would've preferred if Ruffalo had been the Hulk more, as opposed to being in that Hulk Buster suit for most of the movie...

That's all...

Hot Pepper. Another Les Blank movie. This one is highly recommended, although there's probably a lot of people that wouldn't sit through it (I was watching it with a buddy and about twenty minutes in he had me throw on a different movie...I finished watching this one after he left)...

Watched the last 3 episodes of Falling Skies (S1) while we ate dinner: What Hides Beneath, Mutiny, and Eight Hours.

Don't have S2 yet so I guess we'll be moving on to something else...

Are you leaving this board or blu-rays? That would suck.

I am not a Democrat or a Republican but if a Republican did this they would be burned at the stake by the media and Ted Kennedys situation has been most mostly ignored except for the people who remember when it happened.

Jason Isaacs did a good job playing Ted

That's why I don't even bother going into the political forum here. It's not worth it. Stick with a few main threads and you'll be fine. But I also can't say I blame you, people here are dropping like flies. I don't think it's necessary DVDTALK as a whole, just forums in general.

If you are a Republican or supported Dubya you won't like this movie.

I had no idea until the closing credits that Milla Jovovich played Woody's wife in the movie.

Based on the 5.2 at IMDB and the 30% critic, 34% audience I'd guess that a few more than just Republicans didn't care for it. Critics and people in the arts are not known for their right leaning ways.

I was impressed. Not only a good horror/exploitation movie, but a good movie in general with solid acting and scripting.
The atrocities relayed through the opening credits are profoundly more horrific and dispiriting than any horror movie can come up with, but it provides a thought provoking context for the main conflict of the film rather than just being used for exploitive shock value (which it has in spades).

I'm very interested to revisit Village Of The Damned now and compare/contrast. I wasn't too impressed the first time I saw it, and now it may pale even more after this.

First time seeing this.
Had a similar reaction watching WW for the first time last year. I was entertained, felt some aspect worked well, others were a little tired, but overall the excessive praise this got from mainstream critics struck me as patronizing.
The box office success of this has me totally perplexed. Perfect storm situation I guess, with the anticipation of IW playing a part along with current cultural conditions.

Boseman seemed to be a great embodiment of T'Challa in Civil War (and IW) and he was fine here, but the performances that really sucked all the oxygen out of the room, IMO, were Jordan and Serkis.
When I spin this again, which won't be for quite a while, it's the work of those two I'll be looking forward to revisiting. Otherwise this seemed like a pastiche of other properties, repackaged for a more specific audience.

I did appreciate seeing Bassett rocking long white hair. If only...

Did not know this was based on a video game. This is exactly the popcorn movie you would expect from a premise like this. Usually like Malin Akerman but found her quite miscast in this.

Excellent presentation in 4K, with more detail and depth than the BR. Only compared one scene but did not find a huge difference in the soundtrack like most of my 4K to BR comparisons.

I assume most Republicans hates all Hollywood movies and some might like only those faith based movies with the horrible acting.

I threw out my man card this weekend when I watched these movies.

Legally Blonde 2 was ok and not as bad as I thought when I first saw it though the first movie was still better.

Theron should get a Oscar for Tully for being so unattractive and unappealing and the nanny was hotter which is hard to do

The running scene was unintentionally funny.
