After being less than impressed with the other WWII Pacific set film in the set, I was kind of dreading/avoiding watching this. Turned out this was the film that impressed me most in the whole set.
Grim & gritty and refreshingly free of pat moral heroics. I was sufficiently impressed enough that I'll devote some time another night soon to going through the special features.

Unlike Camp On Blood Island, the Japanese soldiers here are portrayed by real asians, not obvious English actors in (poor) make up.


(Man Without A Star)

Kirk goofily mugs up a storm in an entertaining yarn about a small range war over the use of barbed wire fencing on open government range land.
Kirk is the drifter who blows into town with none too bright traveling mate William Campbell (young, and reminding me a lot, in looks and manner like DJT).
Jeanne Crain impresses as the mercenary rancher who wants to make a fortune in a few years and doesn't mind leaving devastation in her wake.

This will probably get released by Kino here in similar a/v quality (which is quite good for the most part), and is worth a pick up for fans of the actors or genre.
Although for the region free capable you can snag it now for about $10 shipped.

I thought this movie was interesting on a technical level, and Tom Hardy did a pretty good acting job. That said, the movie felt more "gimmicky" than anything, and I completely disagree with the quotes on the cover saying it was "Explosive" and "Flat Out Thrilling"...I wouldn't say that...It was an interesting movie and I'm glad I watched it, but I doubt I'd ever revisit it...

I like driving at night and I thought I would connect with this movie

I admire the idea and maybe one or two scenes had impact but it was a disappointment though it seems all the critics loved it.

Maybe I was out of it in 2000 but I don't remember the time it had a theatrical release.

Watched The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones this evening, followed by an episode of The Flash (S1): Tricksters.

Watched Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief ( from the Percy Jackson Double Feature BD) this evening, followed by an episode of The Flash (S1): Who is Harrison Wells?

Somewhere in the fourth ep I was finally able to ignore the tinier, niggling anachronisms, as well as the feeling of having seen all this too many times before, and just go with it.
The malevolent Gov't agency and runaway experiment were a tired start to me, which kept me more focused on those meaningless anachronisms.
Now that more characters are on the same page as to what is going on, the Stephen King vibe is becoming more pronounced, and I find my investment is ramping up.

Looking forward to the last two eps, but will probably take some time before I dive into season 2 after this.

Good finish to the season. Enough resolution to be satisfying, while leaving a few strands dangling for the next season.


Modest but genuinely entertaining backstage romantic comedy, elevated by excellent chemistry, and performances, between the four leads.

Avengers: Infinity War (3D)...just a near perfect superhero movie. loved it just as much as the first time i saw it and the 3D in this is just breathtaking. i love everything about this one and it is my #1 MCU movie thus far.
