Been watching episodes of the original Star Trek. Looks freaking amazing on Blu-ray. Very impressive transfer by Paramount.

A Bug's Life.

PQ is amazing. More 3D than My Bloody Valentine.

I just watched I've Loved You So Long. Amazing film, even with a slightly uneven ending. The performance from Kristin Scott Thomas was not overrated at all -- it truly was extraordinary. I can easily recommend this film to anyone looking for a film about people. You know who you are... and this is definitely not one for the "Action Only" crowd. I loved it.
I tried to like Skeleton Key but, it never really clicked for me. I thought Kate Hudson was great but overall, it was really predictable. I can't really complain as I got the HD disc for $4.

Well, I liked it, but I can't really disagree about it being predictable. It was nothing more, nothing less than what I expected from it.

It's not a bad film, just way too easy to figure it out.

Pineapple Express (Blu-Ray)

Funny movie, but not as funny as my friends said it was.

Franco was pretty fantastic though.

Valkyrie

Terrific film, good grainy PQ.

"The Valkyrie Legacy" is a terrific doc on the disc, also.

I haven't watched the documentary yet but I intend to soon.

re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Election. I blind bought this one for $10 on eBay the week of it's release. I finally watched it tonight... Amazing film! I'm glad to have this in my collection. Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon delivered pretty remarkable performances, and Alexander Payne did a good job at directing as per usual. I was somewhat surprised, honestly, by just how biting a satire this truly is (even though I would call myself a fan of the director). I guess I just wasn't sure what to expect based on it's premise.

I'd go so far as to call this film a classic high school movie after this initial viewing. Highly recommended!

Wrestlemania XXV

Having the Shawn Michaels/Undertaker match immortalized in 1080p = awesome! Plus, Kid Rock was edited out = another epic win!

My Bloody Valentine 3D

PQ on the 2D version is fantastic, even though the film does have a soap opera-ish look to it. I'm sure that's due to the cameras they used to film it in 3D. Speaking of which, not only does the 3D effect not look very good at home (surprise, surprise) but the PQ is total shit, especially once you've seen the 2D's transfer.

re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

Gus Van Sant's Paranoid Park. This was a beautiful and sad film, one that I cannot recommend enough to fans of his other incredible and unique experimental film: Elephant. I was not a fan of Last Days, but if you liked Elephant and are a fan of Gus Van Sant's work in general this is a truly amazing film to behold. I definitely consider Elephant a masterpiece, and this is at least a near-masterpiece. Give it a chance!

Passengers

Good PQ, highly predictable film. But I'm a sucker for anything Anne Hathaway is in.

The Secret Lives of Bees. An average movie IMHO. I wasn't terribly impressed, though it was good in some ways. I'm glad it was only a Nextflix rental.

re: Last BD (or, unrealistically, HD DVD) you watched?

I started Happy Gilmore, which I had not seen since I was 11 years old. I couldn't finish it. What a terrible movie... it is just not my type of humor at all anymore.

Then I watched Four Brothers, which I found to be middling entertainment until the ending. Then it was just a downright bad film with a contradictory story.

Poltergeist was next to follow and it was amazing to see again, and in such good quality. This one is truly a favorite of mine, and it's a must own Blu-ray catalog title for fans of Spielberg films.

Lastly, I finished the night with A Bug's Life. I loved this movie more than ever before when experiencing it on Blu-ray. It truly enhanced the film. I have always considered this a strong movie, and have loved it, but tonight I can say I not only loved it but I found it extraordinary. It is truly another remarkable Pixar achievement.
