Killing Them Softly 1/5 - supposedly it gets better but it took so long to get going I gave up on it.

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure-

This is the best I've ever seen the movie look. The deleted scenes were cool but I wish there would have been a blooper reel.

I Come In Peace (aka Dark Angel). The colors on the White Boys sports cars really pop on this blu ray.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles I say it every year, but I am so mad I didn't go watch the filming that was happening about 30 minutes from here.

Well, it was only the one scene and it was shot in the middle of the night. And, the freeway portion wasn't open to the public yet. They had to get permission from the NYS Thruway Authority to use it. When I was in high school and found out they had shot it there I got all geeky and drove the same strip of road one day.

I was only a few months old when they shot it but I always knew about it because my dad used to tell me every time it was on TV.

One thing I noticed for the first time last night after seeing it for the 10,000th time was Michael McKean's trooper uniform. It has a Wisconsin patch on the upper arm - meaning they actually overshot Chicago on their route and stayed in Wisconsin that night after the car caught on fire. There was so much cut (since the original version was 3 and a half hours long) so you have to wonder what else happened to them on their journey that we'll never get to see.

I was unaware of that scene. It appeared to me that several of those daylight scenes were of the NYS thruway. I remember seeing a blurb in the paper that they were filming on certain days, so they at least filmed some daytime scenes in Batavia, NY.

In the extras, Michael McKean tells about how his scene was supposed to be so much longer to provide exposition on that overshooting of Chicago. Never realized they had 3.5 hours worth. At 90 minutes it easily could have been a bit longer but apparently they didn't want the experience to feel like the viewer was never going to get home.

The Kings of Summer

Funnier than what I expected. Nick Offerman always delivers.

First chance I've had to see these last eps.
Was a little disappointed in how some of the last ep plays out
Spoiler:
the ease and success with which pretty much all of Walt's activities were accomplished
, which still kind of sticks in my craw. But despite having to work a little harder to suspend disbelief, it still excelled where it really mattered. And I can't get that last music cue out of my head days later. Sublime.

needed something to decompress with after gorging on BB- this turned out to be the perfect chaser. Liked it even more than the first season. For the longest time I had this sitting around unwatched and couldn't muster up the enthusiasm to start it. Couldn't have picked a better time to finally spin it.

fun concept and enjoyable performances from all the leads. Great production values too utilizing a lot of location work. Interesting to contrast this with the modern take.
