The X-Files: Season 5 - Redux. Solid season premier, and much better than the previous season finale. Mitch Pileggi has a chance to shine in the first two episodes, as does the Cigarette Smoking Man. Solid entry. 3.5/5.
The X-Files: Season 5 - Redux II. Again, another generally solid episode. I loved the whole sequence with Mulder in the Pentagon. That was well done. 4/5. The X-Files: Season 5 - Unusual Suspects. A pretty entertaining and unique episode where the Lone Gunmen take front and centre. Pretty humorous at times...I don't think Scully appeared in this at all, because she was off filming the movie. I was never a giant fan of the Lone Gunmen, but this episode made me appreciate them more. I also get a kick out of seeing Richard Belzer in character as Detective Munch, the character he's most famously known for playing on both Homicide: Life on the Streets and Law & Order. He has some good lines in this episode. 4/5. The X-Files: Season 5 - Detour. One of my favorite "monster-of-the-week" episodes, I vividly remember watching this when it originally came out. Very suspenseful, as Mulder and Scully are trying to track down some strange creature in the woods that has been attacking people. Very reminiscent of the movie Predator, but not so derivative that it detracts from the episode. There's also, once again, a decent amount of humour in the episode. And I also liked the scene where Mulder and Scully do some bonding in the woods late at night. 4.5/5. Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers. I would've never thought someone would make an entire movie (okay, a 50-minute movie) all about garlic, but Les Blank manages to pull it off. Now, I'm not a giant fan of garlic, but it was kind of fascinating watching these people show us these recipes and how they cook certain meals. The music was also good. A very bizarre movie but if you like the kind of documentaries where the director just kind of fades to the background and documents people just living their lives, then you might enjoy this one... The X-Files: Season 5 - The Post-Modern Prometheus . One of the most famous episodes. This is the one that was shot in black-and-white and was suppose to pay homage to old-school Universal Monster Movies. In that, they were extremely effective. The cinematography looks amazing in black-and-white. The only issue I have is that the humour is a little bit too much, at times. Although, I have to say that the actor that played J. Peterman in Seinfeld plays a part in this, and he fits in perfectly. I've always liked his over-the-top acting style. Almost like it's a parody episode (and largely it is, but oh well). Nevertheless, a solid entry. 4/5. |

Mimic: Director's Cut. Another Blu-Ray I've owned for years but only recently got around to watching (I'm trying to work my way through the 200+ movies I own but have never watched). I know he suffered a lot of interference from the Weinsteins on this movie, but had heard that he managed to make a pretty decent cut when he was allowed to revisit it. Well? Unfortunately this is still one of his weaker movies (the only movie of his I like less would be Pacific Rim). Mira Sorvino is okay...Charles Dutton is good...The CGI was pretty hit-or-miss...Some shots looked great, others not so much...I did love the wintry shots of New York (I believe that's where it was shot). And I like how it's constantly raining and grimy and all that. Josh Brolin was also pretty good in his role. An okay movie to watch, preferably on an overcast day with the curtains drawn.

^ I'm glad I'm not as critical of movies as that, my wife and I both enjoyed Mimic, I think it's a solid sci-fi/horror movie. I owned the theatrical version on DVD, bought the Director's Cut (Triple Mimic feature), sold the DVD, I'm glad it's in my collection.
Watched Avengers: Infinity War this evening. I hadn't read spoilers or anything about this movie, had no idea it was only half of a larger movie. I was definitely entertained by what I saw, but was disappointed when I found out it wasn't the whole movie. |

EXACTLY what I expected it to be- a late sixtes crime drama, that is about on par with some of the hour crime/detective shows that you would see on TV in the early- mid seventies. It teases some risquee elements, but is ultimately too timid to go too far beyond the, at that point, collapsed code. You see Charo's bare bum through a pebbled glass shower door and Tippi Hedren teases getting her bikini top taken off, but it's all quaint at this point (and probably back then as well). The camera set ups and blocking are strictly basic TV style medium shots and close ups, as is the flat lighting. Despite all that, I was entertained. I have a fondness for the era and it was great seeing a lot of old familiar faces again- from Dean Jagger and Glenda Farrel to R.G Armstrong and John Dehner. Even Burt Mustin(!) shows up. No classic, but well worth the $8 I paid in the last kino sale. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US218_.jpg Still as effective and affecting as ever. I've always admired the way it engenders sympathy for the main character ever before the opening credits roll. Sympathy that is organic to the eventual plot motivations/machinations. Then later how the story transitions seamlessly from spook show to ...something else. Such a masterfully conceived and constructed movie. So gratifying to finally have this in a watchable edition. |

Nicolas Cage was in it so you know it was shit. Thanks Netflix for skipping Deadpool 2, Life of the Party, and Tag so I can get this in the mail. |

Watching No Escape (1994) with Ray Liotta now. It‘s region free from Australia, I think. Everything same, but the title in movie actually reads Escape from Absolom. The foreign distribution title obviously, but why change it so drastically and to something obscure, like the name of the prison no one will know until they see the movie?
Anyway, think I saw this in theaters. Remembered liking it. Will see how this next viewing fares. Surprised Martin Campbell did this. I like a lot of his stuff. His 2 Bond entries. One with Brosnan, and one of my all time favs with Craig in Casino Royale. Surprised Gale Anne Hurd producer as well. Of course know her from The Walking Dead and her many productions with James Cameron... |

Humorous and fun. Nothing great. A good rental https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_US218_.jpg Saw this in the theater and wanted another look. An OK movie but I preferred the Jolie versions. My son said he liked this one better. |

;) https://target.scene7.com/is/image/T...=488&fmt=pjpeg I think Carey has the chops to be a serious actor but he can't sustain a career with projects like this. Charlotte Gainsbourg gets naked in every movie. Not a good movie weekend |
re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?
Unfortunately, sat through some pretty brutal movies the past couple of days...But here's my takes on them...
Tag. With this cast, I was REALLY looking forward to this one. I love Ed Helms. I love Hannibal Burress (who had next to nothing to do in the movie). I generally like Jeremy Renner and Jon Hamm. I had heard the concept and thought it would make a great movie. But, man, this was just brutal. I maybe chuckled a couple of times, but that's it. I think I was sitting on the couch just frowning for most of the movie. I think part of the issue is that they took the concept and instead of making it somewhat believable, they just went so over the top that the story really suffered. One of my least favorite movies of the year. Game Night. Well, I purchased these ones on the same day and since I had heard all sorts of great things about this one (as opposed to the somewhat scathing reviews Tag got), I decided to save this one for last just in case I didn't like the prior movie (which, clearly, I didn't). This one was disappointing, too. It was still better than Tag, but that's a pretty low bar. I usually like Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams, but didn't really think they had much to work with in this one. Like, I couldn't believe that this has a "Fresh Tomatoes" sticker on the cover (in general, I could care less for a Rotten Tomatoes score, but it still annoys me that it's on the cover of this movie). Pretty dreadful movie...Although I will agree with others that Jesse Plemons was the standout in the movie...I laughed once or twice because of him... Daddy's Home 2. The agony didn't end there. I didn't even like the first one, but found this one in a bargain bin and thought, what the hell. I generally like Mel Gibson (aside from his racist/sexist/bigoted/drunken acts), and wanted to see how he interacted with Wahlberg. Well, he was pretty much the only decent thing in a truly abysmal movie...While I didn't care for the first one too much, it's a masterpiece compared to this. Just brutal. I wished I picked up Blockers instead of this... 1941. Decided to change things up and finally watch this Spielberg Blu-Ray, which I've owned for about a year (it's the version in that Spielberg Universal box-set). Well, first off, I chose the Theatrical Cut, which is about half-hour shorter than the Extended Version. For that, I am truly grateful. I hated this movie. By far, Spielberg's worst (even worse than that last Indiana Jones movie). Just nothing funny in it. John Belushi and Akroyd were completely wasted in this. Treat Williams was somewhat decent, but the movie just wasn't funny at all. Was surprised to see Warren Oates in this trainwreck... Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The first one. Have never watched this. Didn't much care for it. I thought the music/score was good, but the story never really drew me in. And, for some reason, I didn't think the Blu-Ray image looked that good. Almost looked like a DVD. Weak. I'm hoping the series picks up, as I'm looking forward to watching whatever entry Cuaron directed... |

Constantine - mixed reviews on this one but I find it a guilty pleasure.

They show up at events to play the "game". So the wedding, child birth, communion etc., which should be about the couple or honoree, suddenly becomes about the people and their game. That is the height of selfishness. I'm not going to show up to show up to your wedding and propose to my girlfriend in the middle of the ceremony. By playing the game and taking the focus off who it should be, these people are assholes. I hope they rot in hell.

I might check out Game Night again down the road...I might've just hated Tag so much that it got me jaded before I watched a follow-up movie...Who knows...That was just a horrible night for watching movies...I finally threw on John Carpenter's The Thing for like the hundredth time, cause I knew I'd at least enjoy that one... |

A guy that looks like Ice Cube and an aging flabby King Leonidas make a for a fairly typical heist flick. All the requisite "almost caught" moments are there along with a twist at the end. Some good gratuitous nudity and a crapload of bullets flying made it a decent rental but not a keeper. |

Like Supergirl, I forget just how bad this movie is because it has highly capable talent in front of and behind the camera- so every six or seven years I'll get to thinking "it can't be as bad as I thought it was. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood?" Nope. It's terrible. Two hours of people almost non stop, yelling in my face. People forget, or weren't around back then to remember but while Raiders had a great tag line about being "from the creators of Star Wars and Jaws", it was actually 1941 that was the immediate directed predecessor for Spielberg (I don't count the SE of Close Encounters which was basically just a re-release). And that thing was an epic bomb in every sense. |

Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone - Extended Edition, I love ths franchise more then any other, but I like the darkness of the series in 3-8 and the bright cheery colors of the first two are never how i pictured it in the books so its a bit distracting but I still love the movie 5/5
Harry Potter and The Chamber Of Secrets - Extended Edition. My least favorite of the series overall but still a fun movie, 4/5 |

It was ok in the beginning but then lost interest. Teresa Palmer was the only reason I added this to my Netflix que. |
