Army of Shadows

3rd time watching it, first time in HD, on a nice big calibrated TV.
It gave me a bigger cinematic boner than ever.

Watching The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) right now. It's one of my wife's favorites. Such a sleek, sexy fun two hours!

I've only seen one cut of it, one time (last year, as I recall, though maybe the year before). Dreyfuss was great in the role of a guy obsessed, and while I was dissatisfied with his sense of priorities I thought it showed a lot of storytelling bravery on the part of Spielberg--especially given his later predilection for insisting on finding warm and fuzzy resolutions to father/son relationships. Otherwise, the strongest part of the movie for me was Teri Garr's legs. Shazam!

Battle Royale (Theatrical Cut) - Finally! One of my most anticipated releases for BD. I will never tire of watching this movie. The PQ was mediocre, though. Some shots looked great, others looked no better than a good upconverted DVD. Still, it's the best the film has ever looked and I'm exceedingly happy to own it. AQ was very good, but I thought the LFE sounded artifically boosted.

One of the few that I loved in the theaters, couldn't wait to grab it on disc and found myself bored by it. Not sure why. I mean there are tits! What could be boring about tits?

Honeymoon In Vegas Great $10 investment. Fun movie with the butter-face SJP.

Force 10 From Navarone Not bad, an upgrade from the SD. OK for a bargain title but bad during the nighttime scenes

I picked up Mr. & Mrs. Smith over the holidays on some special. I can't say it was significantly better than the DVD version, but BD is better. The colors seem to pop a little more and a more 3D effect (with 3D truly out now, I guess I should say more depth to the image). Also some dark scenes do seem to show more detail.

Anyway...good guilty pleasure flick...

Four Weddings And A Funeral Good looking release. I lent my SD to my parents but after seeing it again I think they're going to have a problem with the language

Machete - although the special features lacked and I will have to buy it again down the road, I couldn't wait...I love this movie, it entertains for almost 2 hours which doesn't happen these days.

Red Cliff: Special Edition (UK) - Part Two - I wasn't really diggin' part one all that much, it was pretty decent but I hated all the long overdrawn intros for almost every character. It definetly paid-off in the end though, part two was awesome. I loved the tactical part of this movie, I can't recall a movie that relied so heavily on describing the tactics of war and then following through by displaying them. I'd have to say my favorite part was the theft of the arrows. Great movie, I'm really glad I took the time to watch the nearly five-hour epic.

Modern Family - Disc One & Two - I've been showing this in pieces to some of my friends when they come over. So far most of them have really enjoyed the humor and have actually become very interested in seeing more.

Piranha (2010) - Saw this in theaters, in 3D... hated it. For whatever reason, I hda a feeling that I'd enjoy it more at home, so I bought it for $20 @ Target. I was right. It's a fun throwback to the '80s horror flicks full of boobs & blood. I hope Gulager can make a decent follow-up, but I have a feeling he's going to miss the mark.

The Social Network - Probably the best dialogue-driven film I've seen in years. Without Sorkin's script, this film would be boring as shit. His words are what make it memorable, not the actions of the film's Zuckerberg. Fantastic cinematography by Cronenweth, and I loved Reznor's score.
