Kick-Ass

Took about 40 minutes to go from ok to very good, but then the movie is quite entertaining. Even if the "controversial" language hadn't been used, Hit-Girl still would have stolen every scene she was in. That said, I expected it to be worse, but the wife and I had no problem with her character (the actress was perfect) at all.

Very good movie by the end and we're looking forward to the sequel.

The African Queen + Embracing the Chaos - Two-hours of pure movie magic. One of those Blu-rays that should be in everyone's collection.

Fritz Lang's M on Criterion Blu-ray. Great movie and great picture.

Just finished Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. There may be greater films...but I can't think of a more enjoyable one!

Red Shoes - I'd probably put this near the top of my favorite Blu-Rays & I obviously own a lot. An absolutely flawless film & I don't use that term lightly as there are very few purely flawless films. Truly shows the power of cinema as one would think (at least I do) what is more boring than ballet.

Forbidden Planet - A whole lot of fun, makes for quite a double-feature with the last Blu-Ray I watched. I'm really loving these Corman releases.

Kick-Ass - I liked it a lot, but glad I rented from Redbox for $1.50 for now. Will pick it up when it's $10 or less.

Yeah, I've seen better movies for sure, but it's not that bad. Liam Neeson is always a plus though a hyper Justin Long nullifies that. But if you like Ricci, you'll probably love this movie regardless :)

Just watched Serenity (on BD, but I also have it on HD). Haven't seen the film in 4 years and it still held up for me. It reminds me to have some faith in Whedon for The Avengers.

The Ghost Writer - After my initial disappointment at the fact that this wasn't a full length movie about a crime solving ghost, I really enjoyed it. Slow moving but all comes to a head in the end with an awesome finale.

eh. i thought it was terrible. predictable, silly and bad performances all around. i was especially turned off by the lights going off scene in the school. i have seen that a dozen other times in better and worse ghostly-horror movies and the director's commentary on it made it seem like she was being original.

i do like Ricci, but i would sacrifice nudity (especially the gratuitous nature this one seemed to provide) any day for a more than watchable movie.

simply breathtaking. loved every minute of this and Yen was amazing. to think he knew no Wing Chun prior to this is outstanding and he looked like he'd been doing it all his life when he only trained for 9 mos.

heart, historical relevance, humor and very-well executed action. loved it so much!

I just watched the Hong Kong blu-ray of Ip Man 2, and while the first movie was better, the sequel was not without it's charms. I actually liked the first half of the sequel every bit as much as the first movie, but the 2nd half of the sequel suddenly turns into Rocky IV and I wasn't really ready for that.

The blu-ray looked and sounded fantastic.

A Prophet - This movie got almost zero purchases last week, & pretty much zero mention in any thread, but had this been a Criterion release people would have been all over this film just because of the "criterion" label people need to be told a movie is good and worth owning. That said, this is an absolutely phenomenal, complex, and extremely well-scripted film with an outstanding transfer.

I had already heard good things about this film, but all I'll be honest... This is what swayed me to adding this to my Netflix que. I'll be seeing it soon and will add my comments later.

As for last watched, I checked out After.Life. I couldn't even finish it. This was definitely boring and a wasted rental.

I love crime movies. A Prophet was one of the most satisfying films & stories I've seen in the past 2+ years, the last 35 minutes are just perfection. Very complicated movie (you've got to stick with it), absolutely brilliant lead performance, & rarely seen cultures in a crime movie give it a unique layer of depth. Can't recommend it enough. Let me know what you think.

Up Meh. It's a fine movie, there's nothing wrong particularly with it, but it's not as good as Wall-E.

John Carpenter's Halloween Where the hell is my Halloween 2 on BluRay? I could care less about the rest of the franchise or the Rob Zombie remakes, just give me this one.
