Doesn't look any different (color wise) than the other DVD releases. Looks pretty damn good to me.

According to the personal note included in the release, William Friedkin says "My gratitude to Warner Home Video for presenting this high-definition Blu-ray, which was color-timed by the cinematographer Owen Roizman and myself and represents the very best print ever made of The Exorcist."
Might pick this up over the weekend. |

Yes, it does look pretty good. Can you believe this movie is 36 years old? Damn time goes by fast. The color and sharpness in some of the scenes are amazing. |

Re: The Exorcist
Went digibook all the way on this - the Wal-Mart version wasn't even an option for me.
However, this movie is really one of the only movies that has EVER scared me... and not just to a minor degree. I'm truly afraid to watch this movie at home, at night, and by myself, lol. So, hopefully I get around to watching it sooner rather than later, but I'm quite pleased with the digibook packaging. It's done very nicely. |

Wow, watched this last night & it looks & sounds amazing. I wish there was some hybrid between the two versions though. The extended version without the ridiculous CGI additions and that added Dr. office scene would be about perfect.
The Raising Hell: Filming The Exorcist doc is fascinating too. After seeing this movie so many times for so many years it's cool to see this stuff. Especially Linda Blair in that makeup smiling & acting like a kid on the set. |
Re: The Exorcist
Red Warner logo in original version?

Re: The Exorcist
Here's the BIG question: is the "Theatrical Cut" on the new Blu-ray the ACTUAL theatrical cut, or the one released on the 25th anniversary edition? There were a few minor "fixes" done to the 25th anniversary edition, the most jarring of which (to me) was the morph between Father Karras's eyes during the climactic wrestling match with Regan.
Here's the morphed version, from the 25th anniversary dvd: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qBSZIPQdvc I'd rather have the true theatrical cut, as I kind of liked the jump cut. Unfortunately, I can't find a clip of that version. And, of course, the theatrical version has the Warner logo that I'll always associate with the film (as mentioned in the previous post): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vtq3mCAd8M |

It was just red & black, like the opening of exorcist II, not like the you tube clip posted above... |
Re: The Exorcist
No red Warner Logo. :( It's gorgeous, otherwise.

Besides the other items pointed out, this 'theatrical version' has 5.1 sound where the original release in 1973 was in mono. |
Re: The Exorcist
Thanks, Eddie, for clarifying. I'll take a pass on this release.

Re: The Exorcist
Pass for me as well, this is not the "original theatrical version".
|
Re: The Exorcist
Yeah, might as well wait for that "fixed" release. -rolleyes-
Watched it over the weekend and it is the absolute best it has ever looked. Sometimes 70s films only look slightly better than the DVD, well this isn't one of them. I'll miss the red logo, but that's a small price to pay to own this movie looking and sounding as good as it does. |
Re: The Exorcist
To be fair, I think the peeps above were just saying they were going to skip this, not that they expected it to be fixed.

Re: The Exorcist
Apparantly this is oop. It's selling for $45 minimum on Amazon. Luckily I found a used copy on Ebay for $15 shipped.

I'm pretty sure Reagan will be doing the macarena in the new version.
