re: The Exorcist

Oh sweet, hopefully that's the price everywhere. I'm always in the mood to save $5.

Okay - Beware to everyone who is thinking of getting the non-digibook from Wal-Mart - it's the Extended Directors Cut ONLY. Sucks ass.

Attachment 96

Sorry, the picture is micro small. Can't figure out how to enlarge it.

The Wal-Mart website does sell the digibooks, though. I ordered Seven on BD through walmart.com, and I got the digibook. I think the non-digibook is just an in-store-thing.

re: The Exorcist

In addition, the Wal-Mart standard case has only 1 disc. Interesting they changed the name from "The Version You've Never Seen" to "Extended Director's Cut".

I wonder if they did that since the "version you've never seen" has been available on DVD...so in essence most fans have seen it. Though there were commercials for the theatrical release of the "version you've never seen" that was shown last week. So, my guess could be wrong.

re: The Exorcist

Stopped by the local WalMart and, as has been reported, it's just the one version. I was hoping maybe some stores might have a few slip through. Ohwell, I had to pick up a couple items anyway.

Looks like a trip to Best Buy in a couple hours.

re: The Exorcist

Another lovely digibook from WB, though I don't understand why they have to make them so wide to accommodate two discs. How hard would it be to put two discs in one tray?

I don't understand the market for the Wal-Mart exclusive. Anywhere else you get the digibook AND the original cut of the movie w/The Fear of God doc. Who wouldn't want that for $20 vs $25?

I bought "Silverado" from them months ago for $14.96. Pretty sure I recall seeing "Easy Rider" there as well.

Just got my copy from Amazon and previewed about 30 minutes and the PQ is spectacular! Sampling "Last of the Mohicans" now, so far.....just o.k. PQ.

re: The Exorcist

who the f*** would buy the Walmart single disc edition??????

oh yeah, this guy !!

it was totally an impulse buy as i saw "Exclusive to Walmart" figuring it was just out a little earlier than other stores for $19.96 (like some of BB exclusives), not having read this thread obviously.

saw The Exorcist once, way back, and was floored that i could get scared from a horror movie again . saw the BD, with the DTS track and nice features, and was really looking forward to seeing it, especially for the October Horror challenge and bought it.

got it home, unwrapped it, put the UPC in DVD Profiler and it didn't register, which is odd bc usually new, popular releases are in there prior to release. so i put it in by title and one came up- the digibook. figured the Walmart was the same version just not digibook, which i would have been fine with. of course, looking at the pic on Profiler closer revealed something interesting - "Extended Director's Cut & Original Theatrical Version". but, but mine only said "Extended Director's Cut". then i read this thread .

my heart sank , since it was opened and i definitely wanted the correct version. i don't have extra money and was just pissed that i got duped.

but, thankfully i spoke to a great manager in the Entertainment Dept. and he let me return it opened for full refund.

what a relief!

To prevent confusion, it's the supplemental material contained on the original cut's disc that's not HD. The movie itself is.

Yep. I think someone took this statement from the review - The only real downside? All of the second disc's supplemental material is presented in standard definition. and applied it to the movie itself.

Yeah, I popped in the theatrical cut last night, and it most certainly is in 1080p HD, and it looks pretty great for a film of it's vintage.

Re: The Exorcist: TVYNS - 2010

So has it been confirmed that William Friedkin didn't tinker with the transfer for both versions?

Really want to pick this up.

According to the personal note included in the release, William Friedkin says "My gratitude to Warner Home Video for presenting this high-definition Blu-ray, which was color-timed by the cinematographer Owen Roizman and myself and represents the very best print ever made of The Exorcist."

Doesn't look any different (color wise) than the other DVD releases. Looks pretty damn good to me.
