The Exorcist: TVYNS - 2010

The bits says so.

I'd rather have The Exorcist: The Version I Have Seen.

Yeah, after The French Connection I'm a bit worried. That's also too bad about the lack of a theatrical cut.

What an odd release. Why just this "version" !?

My guess is that they really think it's the version people want. Everything has to be extended you know, because it's always better, isn't it?

I'll pass until the original cut is released.

No thanks, if Friedkin quits screwing with his prints and releases the theatrical, then I'll buy.

I'm also waiting for the theatrical. Not only is it a better movie, but it has a much better commentary.

re: The Exorcist: TVYNS - 2010

Not only is it "The Version You've Seen But Which is Inferior to the Better Version You've Also Seen", but the transfer will be de-colorized then re-colorized, a la French Connection.

This is all Friedkin's fault. Warner asked him, if there could only be one cut of the film on the disc, which should it be. He told them to make it the 2000 version.

William Friedkin is an asshole.

Ugh. Assuming this is all true, I'm extremely annoyed. I just want the theatrical cut and color timing in hi-def. You would think that wouldn't be too much to ask for.

WTF? Why doesn't Warner just put both cuts on the same disc? Ugh.

This re-coloring crap better not be the reason To Live and Die in L.A. got delayed...

That's strange, Friedkin said he only put together the version never seen because Blatty wanted it, and he prefers org cut.

re: The Exorcist: TVYNS - 2010

I have a feeling they'll release the original cut after they get enough complaints, although we might be stuck with the "Friedkincolor." After all, they did decide to release the unrated cut of Natural Born Killers.

I believe in the commentary for the new version, one of the few times he doesn't just describe exactly what is happening on screen, he says he now prefers the new cut.

re: The Exorcist: TVYNS - 2010

It would be doubly good if it was all a trick, and the disc includes The Version You've Never Seen with tweaked color timing and the original edit with the original timing.

I'm assuming Warner released the director's cut of Natural Born Killers as:

A) Lionsgate's rights on the title expired and they reversed back to Warner.

B) Warner dropped their no-Unrated releases policy.

This would've been a great time for Warner to put together a nice two-disc BD set with both edits, but since they're only choosing the inferior TVYNS, I'll be choosing to spend my money on another title that week.

It's my favorite horror movie of all time, but no original version = no sale.

I didn't know he did a 180. He made the statement I was referring to at a screening of To Live & Die in LA when he was putting together TVYNS. I usually enjoy his commentaries, can't believe I forgot to listen to that one. I've not been able to bring myself to watch The Exorcist since the 90's when they replaced the blood red Warner logo at the beginning with the bright shiney happy warner logo. I mentioned this to a WHV rep (back in the laserdisc days), he agreed with me and said he would make sure they got it right next time, then they used the black & white logo... urgh...

re: The Exorcist: TVYNS - 2010

He'll have an introduction boasting that it's the best print ever of The Exorcist!

I rented that bonus disc from The French Connection, and it's sad to see how great it looked before he messed with it.

As part of his ongoing mental breakdown, he's done a complete about-face on the issue. You can hear him voice this change of opinion in the following podcast:

re: The Exorcist: TVYNS - 2010

I will get TVYNS if it's released with no changes to color timing; I actually enjoy that cut of the movie.

I also still have my 30th anniversary DVD of the theatrical cut, so I'll just hold onto that.

re: The Exorcist: TVYNS - 2010

I agree with the general sentiment here....

No original cut = no sale
"Friedkincolor" (great term Drexl!) = no sale

Warner needs to release a BD with both the original cut and un-tampered color timing before they get my dollars.....
As I have already done with The French Connection (for color timing issues) and Commando/Fantastic 4/Saw (for cut of the film), I will just hold onto my DVD instead....
