I have yet to get involved with BLU RAY and as I look at the releases only a few besides the new releases catch my attention. Do most of you only buy a few of the older releases while buying mostly new releases ?

Too freakin many. Actually the only ones I really mind were the "upgrades" that ended up being a disappointment like Total Recall. My SE Mars Tin looked better than the blu. The % is about 80.

Don't have an exact number, but I like my movies presented in the best possible quality. So I'd say many.

I'm more interested in seeing older films in HD. Great examples of why upgrading to BD is a no-brainer: Godfather Collection, Bonnie & Clyde, Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey...

Black Hawk Down, Wild Things (well not really, my DVD was defective) and The Fifth Element so around 10%.

I swear there's already a thread on this topic somewhere ... anyway, my double dip percentage for Blu is about 50% ... for HD it was a lot higher, probably around 75%.

No idea at this point. Maybe 20%. I stopped though recently - got tired of spending $20 a disc for something I'll watch once and thats it. Me, Myself and Irene on DVD is good enough for me.

How do they decide on what get's released ? Most of the titles have no appeal too me. I already have Planet of the Apes on laserdisc and dvd so did they decide those people who bought them before will buy them again .

47 for 77 have been upgrades. 5 of these were free with the mail-in rebate for buying a player and most of the others were part of a BOGO deal(Amazon/Columbia House). I was able to dump the SD versions at FYE for store credit.

Hmm, that's a good question. I have bought quite a few double-dips, but on the other hand, I have also purchased quite a number that I didn't previously own. I'll have to check, but it seems like it's probably close to 50-50.

I don't know, but I plan on buying them again. And I don't think laserdisc ownership factors into their decision-making process too much.

Well the laserdiscs were remasters too begin with so I guess the dvds were remasters of the remasters and the BLU RAY discs will be the remasters of the remasters of the remasters.

only one title i have double dipped on. i have been holding out hard on the double dips, especially since the Blu version is damn expensive.

Yes, titles that are proven sellers are more likely to be released. However, they have to stagger out the really big titles. It's a balancing act of releasing enough desirable titles to get people interested, while saving the big guns for when the market grows and they can sell more.

Mine is 22/35 or 62.8%, but a good number were free. Taking those out, it's 40%

46 out of 170 or 27%. Classic films are really the only ones I like enough to consider them upgrade worthy. In most cases a film may not get watched often enough for me to bother rebuying it again unless I can get the HD version really cheap. That was the case with probably half of the ones I did upgrade.

7/33, so around 21%. One of those 7 was a 'double dip' on a VHS title (Nightmare Before Christmas) and I counted The Godfather set as 3 BDs.

Whatever films I owned before on DVD were upgraded in any case. Some like Wall Street I waited on deals.

I'd say over half of my blu-ray collection I previously owned on DVD, but I have quite a few I didn't have before, either because they weren't previously available or the dvds had non-anamorphic transfers, bad transfers, etc. Some of my blu-rays I didn't previously have on DVD:

only the classics and even then only because of killer deals or trades.

I only have 32 discs, but none of them are double-dips.

I'm weak and I double dip on every dvd that I have.

Oh, I should add that Full Metal Jacket is an HD double dip, since I had the first HD DVD version (although it was a gift) and then the SE BD.

I have replaced several HD DVDs with BDs. Should those count too?

i think that most of my BDs are upgrades over SDs - there might be two are three that are not.
