Are Blu-Ray Enhanced for 16x9?
Hi, just a quick question, are all Blu-Ray disk enhanced for 16x9. The reason I ask, I have an Mits HC1500 Projector and DVDs I have that aren't enhanced for 16x9 are displayed about half size on the screen. I gets frustrating watch my movies at only half the size they could be.

Yes, sort of. They're natively 16x9.
Though, bear in mind that 4:3 material will "waste" some resolution on the sides, unlike DVDs. 2.35:1 material still uses some of the image area for blank space.

I guess I was a little unclear. I realize there will be wasted screen space sometimes due to the various aspect ratios.
That isn't what I'm talking about, I guess I don't know how to exactly describe the problem.
For example if I watch a movie that has an aspect ratio of 1.85 if that DVD is enhanced for 16x9 then I get a nice full picture using my entire screen.
However if it is not enhanced for 16x9 then I get a picture in the middle of my screen that is about half the size that the picture should be. Does anyone else experience this, am I missing a setting on my projector?
Which also brings me back to my original question are blu-ray disked enhanced for 16x9 or am I going to continue to have this problem even after I get a blu-ray player?

Could you post some of the titles that you're encountering this problem with? Thanks!!!

You should never have the problem with Blu-Rays, but some DVDs aren't 16x9 (anamorphic) and display like this. For example, "Scream" and the original "The Graduate" are surrounded by gray and don't fill the whole screen.

A few examples are:
Mulan
Memphis Belle
There's Something About Mary
Thats just a few of the recent ones.
Thanks for the responses, nice to know once I get my blu-ray player I won't have the problem with my blu-ray disks.

Yeah, those are non-anamorphic DVDs. You won't have this issue with BDs (although the player won't fix the issues with those discs, and you'll occasionally see it in extras that are carried over).
BTW, Mulan and There's Something About Mary were later released in anamorphic editions.

druryd it looks like you have your answer regarding blurays being native 16:9 but I figured I'd try to help you out with your problem with nonanamorphic DVDs not displaying correctly.
First I don't know which DVD player you're using or the Bluray player you're thinking of buying but your player might have a few different zoom settings to fill your screen. If you have an upconverting DVD player and want to use all of the zoom features of your projector you'll need to output a 480i or 480p signal from the player. Any other resolution disables two of the zoom functions on the projector. If you have the owner's manual for the HC1500 check out the chart on page 19 for a full description.
