Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

Hopefully the release of the steelbooks by Best Buy will put an end of the hoarding of FS steelbooks by Canadian buyers.

USA

Michael Jackson's This Is It [Release Date: January 26, 2010]

HI all, yes it will be in the US as well, I am not sure with who but exclusive for me up here.

I will ask about the case design, it is def a steelbook, could just be an image mock up and they exagerated the corners.

Thanks

Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

My Local Best Buy broke street date on The "A Bugs Life" Steelbook. Paid 34.99 though, so I need to price match that sucker on tuesday. 1 Down

Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

Ok, before you guys kill me, I'd like to ask.

What's up with all this steelbook collecting? I don't get it. It's a freaking metal case. They have no exclusive features, no serial number on them....I don't understand the whole collecting appeal.

I'd rather spend my money and collect Sideshow collectibles or action figures by HOT TOYS then buy steelbooks.

Can anyone say what's up with this madness?

I don't want to flame but just curious WHY people collect them.

Why do people collect anything?
Some people just like certain things, if it's not your bag, so be it....it might just be the current hot fad in the DVD/BD world that will run its course (like Beanie Babies or Pokemon cards), or maybe it will last longer like coin or stamp collecting....doubtful, but pretty much everything has at least a certain size fanbase....
I don't care about steelbook cases either, but I can see their appeal....limited availability, sturdier design and functionality, alternate (and a lot of times better looking) artwork....
Here is another example: I personally remove almost all slipcovers and just throw them in a box in a closet, as I don't care for them....but then some people go to great lengths to get their titles with slipcovers, as they prefer the way they look or whatever reason....

Just as I thought, my local FS store has at least 10 Cars steelbook left when I went in yesterday. All of the speculators and Ebayers probably stop buying them when they saw the announcement that the US Best Buy will be carrying them.
Love it!

Such a late release on Up for those over the pond. Hopefully the Steelbook is a new release and not the same one we got in North America.

Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

i'm so glad i never got in on those (expensive) Futureshop disney titles. picked them all up this morning at BB. first store near my house i went had depleted, second store in the city had plenty (which was the opposite of what i thought would happen). btw, one of the Pirates titles rang up as $34.99; got the adjustment for $29.99.
i bid everyone good luck in finding the copies they need.

Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

I picked up Nightmare Before Christmas (only had the non-anamorphic dvd), POTC Black Pearl (love the movie and figured the movie would be worth an upgrade) and Wall E (loved the case and only had the single edition dvd in the craptacular packaging). I have Cars, Monsters Inc, Pinnochio and Sleeping Beauty all on BD and couldn't justify 30 dollars for a case, although the Sleeping Beauty one looks great. If Ratatouille looked like the SD steelbook I would have gotten it (same with Cars). Not a huge fan Bug's Life or the sequel POTCs that I didn't pick them up.

Also for those who got Nightmare and Black Pearl, did the Nightmare case have slots for 2 discs but have sticker saying one disc only and Black Pearl only have space for 1 disc and have the Extras disc in a paper sleeve? Trying to figure out if it worth my hassle to switch the plastic inside...

Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

I'm the only one there and bought 16 of them that I wanted. At first, I couldn't find the Disney stand and notice there was a doubled sided stand, where The Lost are facing the front and Disney are in the back. I decided to pricematch Walmart prices at CS counter and guess what I also got 2x $25 gift cards baby!! I saved about $170.24 net. There are 8x copies each but 4x of Monsters, Inc. See picture for proof!

Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

that's interesting. but how did you PM Walmart's ad? they only show 4 specific BR titles for $19.96, not any title. i would be surprised if your store allowed that.

Its Walmart.com. I add all of them on my cart then print out with the total.

NICE! I love this idea. Thought it was brilliant with Snow White. Can't wait to nab this

Jut got back from BB before. It looks like they barely sold any of the Disney SBs all day.

And mine is completely out. I'm sure it will vary greatly depending.

Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

Mine had a decent bit left... but thats because the double sided standee had the Steelbook side facing a wall. You had to know it was there to actually find it.

Wasn't The Lost are facing the front and Disney facing the back?

Re: Blu-ray / HD SteelBook Covers

I walked right by the Lost Display, not realizing they were on the back. Went over to the regular Blu-ray Section and found a few copies of only like 3 titles. As I walked to the front I saw the back of the display and got some more.

Also, glad we will be getting Michael Jackson's This Is It in a SteelBook, but I really can't stand the "pre-order and get a free SteelBook" idea; I'd rather just get the SteelBook with the discs already in it.
