That said, I still think he is a credible source on most news related to DVD and high-def. As I've said before, he's been right with details much more often than he's been wrong.

Fair enough. I'll try to be more open-minded in the future.

Again, those are my opinions based on what I've witnessed over the past couple of years. That's what informs -- or perhaps, if you prefer "predjudices" -- my reaction when I hear information from him which contradicts something I might've heard from another source.

It is most distressing to see Warner Bros. lowering their standards and sacrificing quality. It's a disservice to us, their customers.
The subject of this thread, apparently, is Speed Racer's specs. As confirmed by Bill they won't include loseless audio. I would think that it would be much more appropriate to question someone's credibility if the information supplied was refuted by a different source. Confirming what has already been confirmed and proven accurate gives little credibility to the calls in this thread questioning Bill's journalistic integrity (as it is hardly a relevant topic for discussion). Especially when plenty of other people have not stumbled on any relevant information clarifying their clams on highly sensitive subjects.

This thread should not have been started, with the obvious disclaimer it carries, to begin with.

...but it was.

I seem to remember reading on one forum that someone (other than Josh Z in this thread) confirmed with Warner that there would be a TrueHD track.

I also seem to remember that after Bill posted that it'd be a BD-25 with Dolby Digital only, there was some speculation that he might've been relying on their press site where inaccurate information occasionally does crop up. Checking against the press site would technically be confirming with Warner, but there is some room for error there.

I think mixed messages from Warner are to blame here more than anything else.

No doubt HDD has lost a lot of credibility over the past 12 months or so... at the same time, DVD Talk has really stepped it up a few notches.

But applesandrice once owned an HD DVD player and does not worship the ground BH walks on and therefore any word coming out of his mouth must be condemned as heresy! Cripes. When will this end?

FWIW, I think he explained his position on BH calmly and without disparaging anyone else. There's a lesson there.

Finally, just because BH's original report seems to be correct, does not eliminate the conflicting reports, including some apparently on press materials, that showed there to be different specs. To me, it seemed like Josh was just passing along the final answer he received on the issue.

Still do! Two, in fact! One of them even knows how to play Blu-ray discs, which to me is just marvellous.

What was the point of this thread? The final answer Josh received is the exact same final answer Bill Hunt received, and posted, several weeks ago.

Of course, if I was still angry that HD DVD lost, I would probably want to hear this news from Josh instead.

Posts like this really don't do anyone any good.

Because of the mixed messages from Warner, there was still some question, and the mixed messages apparently continued to come even after Bill posted his confirmation. There's nothing nefarious or underhanded about this thread.

I disagree with your last sentence. But still, why even start a new thread?

Knock it off, guys. The previous thread was closed due to this.

This is a thread about Speed Racer. It's not about anything else.
