Frickin' collectible boxes.

How is a box any worse than a monkey head when it comes to throwing stuff on a shelf?

Haha, please forgive me. My excitement go the best of me since this is like the best release announcement ever for me.

Steve Phillips 08-01-08 10:25 AM

I can live with the oversize/overkill packagaing (though I really wish they weren't doing this and went with standard cases) as long as the transfers are good and they remember to include the extended version of BATTLE.

That is just gorgeous.

Come on sub-$200 Blu Ray players!

Mr. Cinema 08-08-08 05:11 PM

Great looking set!

naitram 08-08-08 05:37 PM

It looks cool but what a pain in the ass functionally - I'll either just buy the first movie individually and wait for a slimmed-down set, or transfer them all to individual keepcases and print covers myself. I bet that $50 of the price of that set is built into the "premium" packaging.

Gizmo 08-08-08 06:05 PM

Pass. The Monkey Head set for me is "good enough". The only good film is the first anyway and this one appears to be missing the TV Show and Cartoons. If the price was right ($60-$70) I'd bite, but no way will I touch it with that high of a MSRP especially with everything else coming out.

Hammer99 08-13-08 02:35 AM

That set looks pretty slick, but I'm afraid I will have to pass on this after all. Hopefully they will eventually be released in standard-sized cases... at least the 1st one anyways.

Wasnt it available in Japan (on laserdisc perhaps)?

Steve Phillips 08-13-08 09:28 AM

Nope, that was the extended version of BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES. Even that had been seen on TV in the US prior to its eventual release on the second US Apes set.

Mr. Cinema 08-13-08 10:01 AM

I will be owning this one. It's not up for preorder yet. I think HD Digest said the list price was $159.99, but I thought I read on blu-ray.com that it is supposed to be reduced to $129.99. I'm hoping so.

DVD Polizei 08-13-08 08:49 PM

I want my BLUE APE HEAD!

Exactly! Mine is on my DVD shelf right now...its freaky looking. To bad they can't make a BD version of it.

flyboy 08-16-08 10:58 PM

I hope Planet of the Apes can be purchased seperately, I would hate to buy all that other garbage (no offense) to get just the original.

Buy some blue plastic model paint?

Nice set but I've really gotten cranky with the non-standard boxes - The Blade Runner set had the right idea: do a custom package with the collectables, books, misc., *but* bundle the actual disks in a standard BD case. Then you can stash or display the collectable stuff, ~and~ put the disks on your normal media shelf/rack/etc.

You got your wish. All of the films will be available separately. They're up for pre-order now at Amazon, with a lower list price of $34.99.

bunkaroo 09-18-08 10:28 AM

Very good news - only wanted the first one myself, but I still commend Fox for making them all available on Blu-Ray.

Zen Peckinpah 09-18-08 02:57 PM

I'll definitely be grabbing the damn dirty Blu-ray of the first one as I never upgraded the old non-16:9 one after selling it.

Drexl 09-18-08 07:54 PM

OT, but why aren't the Omen films available separately if these are?

True but Fox should be hammered for what they are charging for them. If the studios want people other than us guys to buy into Blu-ray they need to price it for the common man AKA joe sixpack. And they wonder why the format isnt taking off faster?

mzupeman2 09-19-08 06:02 AM

Definitely cool, all I wanted as well was the first one.
