I picked this up a few weeks back from Amazon at this price. Just watched AVPR. Nice violent movie where no one is spared, and funny too.

I have been describing it as the "Predator 2" of AVP movies.

Sort of HD/BD related...

I just bought it a week or so ago on Amazon. Same deal. $50 rebate and was around $84 after shipping.

Sweet remote. I still haven't worked out all the programming tweaks yet.

I need one of these...I was thinking about getting the Harmony (xbox 360 version). I wonder if this one is that much better. Does not have room for the 4 BD/HD color buttons though...wonder how those would be programmed in?

I bought mine from Amazon a month ago using one of their Marketplace people. It was $124. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

You can have up to 8 activities on the first screen (and you can subsequently have 4 sets of screens, or 32 activities... I think).

The BD and HD-DVD players are housed in the DVD list, so mine come up as "Watch a DVD" and "Watch a DVD2"... but you can rename the activities.

The 880 is not a touch screen (it has buttons to the left/right of the screen).

The One has a touch screen.

This is tempting. I've had so many of my friends yell at me because I have too many different remotes and no one besides would be able to figure out how to use my system. But as it is, even with this remote, I'll bet none of my friends would be able to figure out how to use my system.

Pretty cool that it comes with a recharging station.

Does anyone know if I can use this on the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on and PS3?

For those of you who order BDs from DVD Planet:

Aug52008 = $5 off of $60
Aug10 = $10 off of $120
Aug15 = $15 of of $175

They also have a frequent buyer program that will give you extra discounts.

Or for those of you who order from DVD Empire:

1419163 = $23 off of $150

I am going to leave my original post right above in case someone else had a similar question.

I found out that the remote will work with a 360 but will not work with the PS3, although some people talk about maybe being able to buy something to make it work.

It would be very cool if this remote worked with my HDMI switcher from Monoprice as well.

PS3 used a Blue tooth remote so you can't use any of the Harmony remotes for it unless you buy a special IR adapter (which is usually $10 or so)

Correct. You can buy this remote on the cheap to give you an IR port so you can use your Harmony/universal remotes. I bought this little adapter for my PS3. It's a pricier opotion at $40 shipped, but it is damn sexy and looks like it is part of the PS3, not just a USB dongle.

It always bears noting that there are zero options that allow you to turn on the system from a universal remote. You either still need the controller or to get off your ass. It's on Sony to enable controlling the PS button through the USB ports. One of the more recent firmware updates, however, allows you to turn off the system from a remote.

At any rate I have the 880 working great with my PS3.

There is a remote for the PS3 at Amazon ($16.00) that folks have bought and then used it to program their 880. Here's his review:

Though it is listed as a device to add, I still had to teach my Harmony by stepping through all of the commands with the NYKO pointed at the Harmony.

In any case, it worked immediately, as advertised. I needed one quick fix assigning the "enter" function to the Harmony's "OK" button. It took a little thinking, but I find programing the harmony fun anyway!

No "power on" feature does not bother me since inserting a game, DVD, or CD powers it up anyway. For the power off, I will just have to grab the nearby wireless sixaxis controller. No big deal. Worth having a single (fully backlit) remote to operate playback.
and this guy...

All of this has been stated in other reviews so I won't repeat again. This product is a $15 workaround that allows you to use a universal IR remote with the PS3. The IR dongle is what you're paying for. I never even looked at the remote. If you really need a remote for the PS3, you might as well buy the Sony PS3 remote.
Might be worth a try.

Edit to add: Dangit... Corvin beat me to it.

Thank you very much, Corvin AND Goldberg. (See, I'll send some love your way, too, Goldberg. Even if he DID beat you)

The remote is sold out at B&H, probably order it from Amazon instead. So I think I'll go for the cheaper workaround from Amazon, too. Might as well get both items together, especially when you take into account free 2-day Prime shipping.

Looks like I'm investing in my first universal remote!

On a side note, the 550 is available for $50 (no rebate needed), for those who are extremely budget conscious:

Logitech Harmony 550 Advanced Universal Remote for $50 + free shipping

P.C. Richard & Son still offers the Logitech Harmony 550 Advanced Universal Remote, model no. 966208-0403, for $49.97. (You may have to try adding it to your cart twice.) This remote features control of up to 15 devices including HDTVs and DVRs (e.g., TiVo), interactive LCD, backlit keypad, programmable macros, and USB connectivity for both Macs and PCs.
It only shows 4 activity buttons (at a time) and takes batteries.

I picked this up at the last Amazon sale and works fine for the living room system. First Logitech remote and I'm pleased with it.
