These pics aren't the greatest. I don't know how to take a decent pic with a digital camera.

Hi Def is a the top. I still have a few HD-DVDs left in the mix. I have also downsized my DVD library considerably which is all stacked towards the bottom.

No pics here. Don't have nearly enough Blu-rays to compete with some here.

Its quality not quantity, I'd rather have a collection of 10 Blu-Rays than some of these collections posted with hundreds.

Yeah. It's all personal preference anyways, but I have to question if someone likes all 300 or 400+ movies in their BD collection - especially since the format is still relatively new and the number of titles available for it is still pretty small (comparitively speaking). There must be a lot of blind buys in these collections and a lot of purchasing for the sake of purchasing.

Not to sound as if I'm defending my collection that's pushing 900 titles...it absolutely has a lot of crap in it, although that's due in large part to reviewing...but when did "blind buy" get to be a four-letter word? I don't live in a major market, so a lot of the movies I buy never play theatrically around my neck of the woods. I pick up a lot of catalog titles too, so catching something theatrically isn't really an option a lot of the time anyway. Renting personally doesn't hold any appeal to me. The majority of what I watch is completely new to me when I pop in a Blu-ray disc for the first time.

There are alot of people in your shoes. I blind buy a good amount of stuff, not a ton as I have cutdown drastically, and so far have been very lucky. Some people dont blind buy at all. It seems that some people dont or wont realize that tastes differ. They think that if they think a film is crap, then it must be crap. And there is no possibility that anyone would or should like it. Much less have it in their personal collection.

Blind-buying has it's place... I do it from time to time as well. Although you can't say with 100% accuracy that a movie will be bad without watching it first - I think more often than not you can guess correctly with them help of movie reviews and the actors/director associated with the film. Sometimes you'll be surprised that a film was better or worse than you thought it would be - but I think that doesn't happen too often.

The price of the BD plays a big factor. If it's not much more than it is to rent - then a purchase makes sense. Being a reviewer as you stated definitely plays a factor.

Noone is questioning the tastes of these people with big collections of a relatively new format - since we don't know what's in their collection.

Sounds like comment about "quality versus quantity" was.

Anyway, if I had the dispensable income, I'd probably blind buy a lot of stuff and wouldn't think twice about buying movies that I only enjoyed marginally too. It wouldn't be that hard to pick up a few hundred Blu-rays.

I don't get it, either. 2 tickets to a movie, in my city, is $19. That's a blind buy. Is getting the BD on release day for $20-24 really all that much different? I understand renting and all, but that's not an option for some people. You HAVE to "blind buy" a movie at some point, whether it's a rental, theater, purchase, etc., so I don't really get the whole blind buy stigma.

Just hit 300 and I can indeed confirm that I like them all. I don't think it's an issue of people not liking or appreciating the movies in their collection, but it may only be one thing or aspect of it... which than we'd have to ask ourselves if it's really worth owning for that. Everyone's obviously got a different opinion there.

Including DVD's I'm at 370ish total movies... for me there still has to be a practicality to it all (space, time, etc..). I do feel the more I have the less special they seem (I rarely include movies on bday/christmas gift ideas anymore), and I don't want a library of films, which is what I feel they start to become at a certain point.

Right now for the most part purchases are newer releases and an occasional older title I discover. I could see my collection over the yrs staying in the 400's. It's already enough to get the astonished looks and reactions (and questions about why I have so many) from friends and relatives. I can't imagine how some of you do it...

I've definetly been blind-buying, but until BD's, I never did. I wasn't even really open to seeing old movies because they felt so old and outdated, but Blu-rays have really changed that for me. If I end up with a movie I don't want (which rarely happens) I just trade it away for different movie. No sweat at all.

As far as "purchasing for the sake of purchasing," I don't have the space or time to do that, there's many other things I'd rather be doing that blowing money on some discs I'll never watch.

Don't have any photos since I rent most of mine. I would blind buy everything instead of rent by rationalizing that they were used and I could always sell with the net cost of a rental. But I ended up with hundreds of crappers and didn't get anything for them while they were still worth money. With the rent by mail convenience I don't see why that is not an option?

I absolutely agree with this sentiment. Though some might think otherwise, based solely on the size of my film collection, and the way I categorize it. (I've purchased tons of movies that I watched before via TV, rental, in theaters, etc. that I still haven't watched and are on my "to-watch" lists since buying them).

A large percentage of my blind buy's are from director's or writer's that I love. I've also purchased a number of films that I just genuinely wanted to see and where I thought the price was low enough to justify the risk. (Say, my sub $5 criterion's and $2 or less DVD's of films that I thought looked great based on trailers, reviews, etc. Unfortunately, thing's don't always work out for me. I recently did a raid on some of my "questionable" DVD purchases that I got for .50 cents to $1.00 and only had mild interest in seeing in the first place. Truthfully, I bought some of those just because they were cheap. Turns out (as I feared) I more or less shouldn't have purchased any of those films. So I have been guilty of some unfortunate purchasing decisions before.

On the bright side I still have plenty of DVD's I've purchased for around the same price (.50-1.00) that are movies I genuinely am looking forward to viewing. Overall, I don't think I have that many major purchasing regrets. If I don't like something I can just sell it and make a profit (usually).

I know this thread has gone off topic, and I'm sorry for continuing with that. I hope to post pics of my collection sometime. We'll see.

Chances are, my huge collection already has your ten 'quality' films. I probably also have a lot of people's ten favorite films. Who's to say what quality is?

These are highly impressive guys. I hope that when I start my Blu collection on Saturday, it will soon become as big as all of yours.

Had a couple of questions about the above one though.
2nd row, the middle one there, what title is that?
also, I assume the Subway one is not a US release. Is it region-free though?

Thanks, appreciate it

That awesome middle film is China's NAKED WEAPON (China yes, but original language in film is English). It's one of my favorite guilty pleasure films. This is also the film that producers saw to cast Maggie Q in the new La Femme Nikita tv show, because this movie is basically similar to La Femme Nikita. This Hong Kong blu-ray kills all the other DVD versions. Here's the blu-ray review and it's Region-Free: http://kr.blu-ray.com/movies/Naked-W...y/5310/#Review
