I don't think review copies have been sent out yet.

DVD Talk hasn't gotten its copies in, at least.

Moopher 08-24-08 07:58 PM

I have a question, why is it listed as NC-17 on Amazon's website? Is that typically because of the features? Just curious.

They have yet to be shipped to reviewers...probably in the next few days or next week.

IIG 08-30-08 12:03 PM

Aparently the review copies are arriving, and the early word is that both PQ and AQ are impressive. Amazon can't send my preorder fast enough.

It's probably just a mistake on the Amazon page.

I got my review copies Friday, so DVD Talk should have theirs by now as well. Haven't gotten a chance to view them yet.

The Beaver weighs in...Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.

Gizmo 08-31-08 06:01 PM

They look good...but not a huge, dramatic improvement. I'll rent them as Ive never seen either but I wont spend $40 for a blind buy.

You've never seen Kill Bill? What?!

dan30oly 08-31-08 08:59 PM

Maybe it's already been answered, but is the black and white scene still in b&w?

Not my type of film. Never seen any of The Godfathers either.

Thanks for the links. Good to see they are improvements over the SD discs.

I might have to pass on these. I already own the original releases of Vol 1. and Vol 2. I recently bought the Japanese R2 Vol. 1 as well.

Yes, it has been confirmed that the scene is still B&W.

Do you think The Godfather and Kill Bill are the same genre?

rexinnih 09-02-08 07:42 AM

Going to wait and see what other regions may offer. Spent too much on the Japanese sets to justify an upgrade right now.

Yavin 09-02-08 03:19 PM

Are these still coming out on Sept 9 in Canada? Futureshop has this listed as releasing on Oct 21 ...

A lot of Alliance controlled Blu-rays have been delayed by a few weeks when coming to Canada (The Queen, The Lookout) So I'm pretty sure they're coming Oct. 21. I hit up Amazon and ordered the 2 pack.

I can completely understand someone not having seen the two KB films....some people just don't like Tarantino....

However, The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are two of the best films ever made and I strongly urge you to check them both out when the Blu-rays hit this month...you won't be disappointed...

My Other Self 09-03-08 12:20 AM

I wonder if we'll get an extended cut overseas in BD similar to that Japanese release.

GenPion 09-03-08 10:40 AM

Amazon.com put the Kill Bill Vol. 1 + 2 Blu-ray Pre-Order in my Gold Box Quick Picks today so I finally took the plunge. I was on the fence about it, and that pretty much sealed the deal.

BuckNaked2k 09-03-08 12:13 PM

I've got the Japan import box set with both films, and prefer those cuts. I'll wait for those or the unified cut before upgrading to BD.

Aragorn84 09-03-08 01:46 PM

As someone who has a strong distaste for the notion of repurchasing my dvd collection on blu-ray, this is one title I feel no guilt about. Along with PotC: CotBP, KB I&II are films that I was very let down by with their DVD PQ. I am overjoyed that the Blu-ray releases have corrected these mistakes.

There are very few films that I plan on double dipping in HD, and these are definitely two of them. As for waiting on TWBA - that prospect interested me greatly back in 2004, but in the past four years I've gained a great appreciation for these films as independent works on their own. I'm not so sure I want them combined anymore. While I would have liked an audio commentary (Tarantino should have done this on the original dvd releases), lack of extras is not enough to prevent me from snatching these up.

GreenMonkey 09-03-08 08:03 PM

I broke my $15 and under rule for the pre-order for these @ Amazon. Last time I did that was for 300 on HD-DVD on release ($23...what can I say...my favorite mediocre movie in years, I'm a sucker for swords!).

It helps that all the special features are there...I'm a little sick of not buying discs because they're stripped down.
