what do you think of the shiny spines?

They definitely annoy me, I don't think DVD ever used 'shiny' as a color spine, but with the new rambo discs, reservoir dogs, descent, 3:10 to yuma, kind of makes the blu-ray presentation on the shelf dumbed down...wish studios would stop with this bling thing, since they are selling a classier product it should reflect on the art designs, so people feel they are getting more value.

but I even think LP sized releases (like laser disc) would be more appropriate for a film collection, or maybe a size somewhere in between, to capitalize on 'owning' in a world where digital is taking over, reward those who are still buying, with a better presentation. The 3:10 to yuma disc had seven forced previews! Then there's the FBI logos / commercials, it's pretty much punishing people for buying, as if the studios have a subconscious urge to fail. Maybe we're all on a sinking ship.

Right now small is of course the trend, but you can't get smaller than digital, so maybe future home video releases will have a new design like that... but to me that doesn't reflect film, it is not a small medium but a big one, presented on canisters and gigantic screens. So yeah, shiny spines suck!

I'm still missing the inserts after all these years...sadly looks like I will continue to miss them as we jump to hi-def.

i don't really have an opinion on the shiny spines specifically (none of the titles i own have them), but i do generally have a distaste for many, many cover art decisions that the studios make.

I love the shiny spines as it makes LG titles stand out. Not to fond of the Disney swoosh though.

I don't like the shiny spines - makes them hard to read if light hits them the wrong way.

I thought the shiny spines were the older versions of LG titles at first, much like Uni phased them out.

Then I realized my Lord Of War with a non-shiny spine is actually the older version.

The only thing I like about BD packaging is the slightly thinner case. And, yes, the shiny spines look every bit as cheap as a shiny suit.

I hate that some of the releases have designs all over the artwork, like Universal did with their HD DVD releases. Lionsgate and Buena Vista on some Blu-rays. Anybody that has a high def player already knows that the smaller cases have the high def discs in them, we don't need to be beaten over the head with it. Do it like Fox and WB and everything will be just fine. I'm also a slipcover fan at heart!

Well, it's certainly nice to know that there's something new to bitch about, but this is the first time I've ever heard someone complain that the case is TOO SMALL.
